Toughen Up Your Nails!

Don't you just hate it when you look at your nails and one of them is broken. Some try special nail polishes yet they still split and snap...

Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with rock hard nails. Getting weak talons in tip top shape (and keeping them there) takes extra work, says Tish Rourke, an L.A. manicurist at The Parlour who caters to celebs like Salma Hayek.

First grab the clippers and cut them short. Plan to keep them short for a month. Twice a week, use a fine grain file to smooth down any tears along the edges of your brittle nails, always filing in one direction. Then soak your nails in warm water and a natural antiseptic like tea tree oil soap. Next, massage on a nourishing nail oil, then finish with a coat of polish that contains reinforcing agents like vitamins A, C, D, and E. After a few weeks, your nails should be tough enough to grow long.
