What magazines do you read?

"shoefiend" <joanre...@msn.com>
I don't actually subscribe to *any* magazines any more. I used to
subscribe to Vogue, Elle and InStyle. The new issues of the magazines
would show up in my mail box days after they hit the racks at the
newsstand. InStyle was the worst. My copy would normally show up 5–7
days after I saw it at the newsstand. Since timeliness is part of the
value of the magazine, I thought that was really unacceptable.
I almost always buy Elle, Vogue, Allure and InStyle as soon as I see
them on the racks. Most of the time I will pick up Marie Claire.
When I am at the salon, my hairdresser will usually hand me W. I
actually used to have a subscription, but I couldn't stomach all the
society gossip.
On a non–fashion related note, most of the time I will pick up
Premier, Entertainment Weekly and Vanity Fair.
Does it make a difference who is on the cover a magazine? I won't buy
any magazine with Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton or
Lindsey Lohan on the cover; because I consider them to be vulgar and
pointless (and thus not stylish at all.) I would like to see MODELS on
the covers of the fashion magazines; but I don't expect to see that
happening any time soon.

I subscribe to Vogue, Bazaar, InStyle, and Lucky. I like Allure and will
buy when someone I like is on the cover. I do wish they would return to
photographing models for cover shots as well. I remember when I was a
teenager I used to *love* Paulina Porizkova (I may have spelled that wrong).

There is an article about Paulina Porizkova in the February Marie
Claire. She looks great. I was a Paulina fan, too. She was smart,
frank spoken ... and a refreshing change from the cookie–cutter
blondes who were the big models in those days, like Christie Brinkley
and Kim Alexis. I sent Marie Claire and email thanking them for
article with Paulina in it, and that I wish she had been the cover
girl.
I wonder if the modeling industry doesn't have themselves to blame for
the lack of work on cover and high–profile jobs. They spent all their
resources cultivating the careers of "quirky" (meaning ugly) models.
The fashion/beauty industry is supposed to be aspirational, and I
can't imagine there are too many women out there who would want to
look like some of these models.
Mr. Clean <mrcl...@ggmail.com>
i subscribe to Men's Vogue, Esquire, Details, Architechtural
Digest, Vegetarian Times, The Week, Runner's World, Men's Health,
and Playboy.
i'm letting AD go. i'm also letting RW lapse – it seems to be
geared more toward people who run marathons. and i'll probably
let MV go, too. it only comes out every other month, and there's
about thismuch useful information in each one. i get way more
from Esquire and Details. and as far as Playboy's concerned,
well, i've been getting it for free since 1997, after ordering
two items from the Playboy catalog. it's free. i see no reason
to stop it.
