Help! Scar revision gone wrong

nycphe...@gmail.com
I had a childhood scar on my cheek below my eye. My plastic surgeon
tried improving it by using a radiosurgical instrument to burn away the
top layer of skin.
I have light brown skin so he said this was the best option.
It has been 6 weeks since I had the procedure and the result so far is
discouraging. Although the new skin is smooth (i.e. not depressed or
hypertrophic), the texture of the new skin is like that of a stretch
mark. The new skin is also hyperpigmented. All in all, the scar is
worse than before.
Is 6 weeks too little time to judge what the ultimate result will be?
Am I overreacting?
The doctor has started me on a gel which contains hydroquinone and
kojic acid. Does the gel generally work on scars?
Should I start microdermabrasion treatments to help or is it too
premature? Is permament makeup an option for hyperpigmentation?
Will the skin improve in texture?

Personally, I think you are jumping the gun and getting all upset and
antsy about a recent procedure. Although facial surgery seems to heal
a lot faster than other surgeries you need to give it time to heal
_thoroughly_. Don' t start microdermabrasion on this 'new skin,' calm
down and let the area heal. Have you talked with your doctor about
your dissatisfaction that you didn't receive instant results?? That
would be your best bet before running out and trying other procedures
and thinking about permanent makeup or any other measures.
The absolute best advice you can receive is to leave the area ALONE and
TALK to your DOCTOR.

i had a hypertrophic scar + mole incision (on neck). there were few followups

so 6 weeks sounds a little short to me. it's best to consult with your doctor.
The doctor has started me on a gel which contains hydroquinone and
kojic acid. Does the gel generally work on scars?
these 2 should lighten the skin.
Should I start microdermabrasion treatments to help or is it too

i don't think those are good ideas.
good luck,

I agree with Gee. When I had my moles removed, the scar tissue didn't
stabilize (i.e. Finished fading) until ~3–4 months afterwards. I think that
the original poster is being too impatient. If you try something now,
you're probably going to make it worse since the area isn't fully recovered.
