Authenticity of coach bags

Hello there,
Is there anyone here who can give me tips of how to spot fake Coach,
Prada,etc. bags. I would see them selling privately at a deal but would
not want to be fooled?
Is there an online catalog for older style bags? Are there special
markings I should look for?
