Bed cover?

Adrav <nos...@nospam.com>
I'm re–doing a guest bedroom, which we're
staying in during the remodeling of the
master bedroom, and can't decide on
what to use to cover the king–sized 4–poster
bed –– bedspread or coverlet, or.... ?
Any suggestions for what to use, and where
to get it? I've been looking at various
catalogs and websites, including the
Vermont Country Store, Cuddledown, Lands' End,
The Company Store, BB&B, etc. – but nothing
has jumped out at me. (Only one caveat: a
bedskirt is not an option because it's a
dust–catcher. Ahhhhhh–choo!)
TIA,

I love the Pottery Barn's spring bedding. I bought duvet covers and
shams for each of my girl's beds.

What will they do with the duvets when the weather gets hot?
That's what concerns me, because I don't have room to store
a duvet at night (though it would look great during the day).

They will probably just pull them down to the foot of the bed and use a
top sheet though my kids always seem to be covered up even in hot
weather. I can't find the patterns on the site as they already have
summer bedding on line.

you don't mention what color scheme you are working with or what style.
Something simple (ala LL Bean) or traditional?

What about BB&B? They had some great 1,000 thread sheet sets (I picked up a
few) and some other coverings. Just a suggestion ––– try to get one of
their 20% coupons before going.

Sorry. The bedroom set is Henredon (can't find it on the website) – a
mahogany Queen Anne 4–poster bed and two dressers. The head of the bed is
on a dark reddish wall; the floor is oak. Two walls (the bed head and the
wall with walk–in closet doors on either side of the doorway) are dark
reddish and the other two and the ceiling are creamy pink, as are the
shutters on the windows of the creamy pink walls. It's quite dramatic.
I'd prefer something simple, but "finished" looking.

I already have some "desert rose" sheets from Lands' End

and some flowered Ralph Lauren sheets that pick–up both colors.
But I need something to cover the bed with so that the room
looks "finished" when the bed is made.

Going by your description of the bed (mahogany 4–poster Queen Anne),
I'd go with a coverlet in white or ivory (to pick up the embroidery in
the sheets) with a vine or floral motif, something feminine and
Victorian, like this one from Penney's with a pretty scalloped edge:
http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?DeptID=25436&CatID=31349&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=0e31255&ProdSeq=2&Cat=coverlets&Dep=&PCat=&PCatID=29096&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=12&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0&RefPageName=CategoryAll%252Easpx&RefCatID=29096&RefDeptID=25436&Page=1&CmCatId=25436|28898|29096|31349
Yikes, that's a long one...
Here's some more examples:

if you cannot use a dust ruffle, i would use a bedspread that can go all the
way to the floor, with a matching/coordinating sham!

TIA,
If dust/mites are an issue, I highly recommend that you get something that
will fit into your washing machine so you can wash it frequently. (A lot of
washable bedcovers are too bulky to fit in a home machine; you have to
shlepp them to a commercial laundry.) I have dust and cat allergies (and
cats), and I find that changing/washing bedding frequently is a real
sinus–saver.
It's less polished looking than a bulky bedspread, but when I'm using an
electric blanket or a down comforter or other not–easily–washed bedding, I
put a decorative flat sheet on top of the blanket. (And I will use it as a
lightweight summer layer, too.) The Fieldcrest outlet at my outlet mall
sells sheets separately so I can buy just a flat sheet rather than a whole
set. It's inexpensive, easily washed, and there's a huge variety of colors,
patterns, prints.

I just took a quick peek at what QVC had to offer....you might want to
go there and do a search under the home section...they have bed
ensembles, bedspreads, comforter covers and comforters. Do a further
search under king size....there might me something you like!

Yesssss! I am concerned about that (see below).

What a great idea! We use an electric blanket and a decorative
flat sheet will be perfect! I think I'll go with that until we
move back into our remodeled bedroom (about 5 months), at which
time I'll buy a bedspread for the then–guest bed, because it won't
be used very often. Then, I'll use the other suggestions for finding
the bedspread. (But, meanwhile, I'll have a few cofarb bucks to
play with!)
THANK YOU, and thank everyone else who responded. This is
such a terrific group!

I'm so glad you found the suggestion useful. Now you won't feel rushed to
make a big decision, so you have time to browse.
