my new shoes, etc

"AJ" <ajfash...@att.net>
We've been out of town since Thursday, having a wonderful
time with friends, as well as some work–related stuff
for me, which was also incredibly fun.
To mark an important event in my life, I received,
at a party, in my honor last evening:
1) a vintage tiara from the 1940s. Just gorgeous, in
mint condition. Rhinestones n sterling. There were
several women from New Orleans at this party,
one of whom was, in her youth, the Queen of Comus,
and those New Orleans women know their tiaras
(unlike me) and were blown away at its beauty
and quality. I myself am merely channeling Suzanne
Sugarbaker and wearing it around the house, lol.
2) A fellow shoe–alholic handed me a shoebox tied
in pink grosgrain with the New Yorker cover that
featured a pug and pair of shoes (my two favorite
things). Inside was a never–worn pair of Manolos––
high–heeled thongs with jeweled straps and a silver–
and–black patterned kid inner sole. I have so never
been a thong–wearer, but those days are over.
3) Another friend said it wasn't fair I had Manolos
but no Jimmy Choos. She took the gorgeous black
twisted–kid high–heeled Jimmy Choos off her feet
and insisted I take them. I'm familiar with expression
"giving someone the shirt off one's back," but not "giving
the Jimmy Choos off one's feet."
I love th stuff, but the real richness is the generous
spirit and love of my friends.

What perfect gifts! I'm always so touched when a gift is clearly picked out
just for me. Congrats on the important event and the great gifts/friends.

This weekend I went to Manolo and Choo stores and thought immediately of
you; infact, I showed my husband a pair of black Manolos and told him
that you owned a pair. I didn't try any on not wanting to feel badly
because I couldn't buy them. My winnings weren't that good.
Congratulations on your important event and wonderful gifts.

Don't you find it amusingly and deliciously ironic that someone who has
nothing better to do than troll a newsgroup suggests that other people
*get a life* ?

You Are So So too much...Get A LIFE !
Thanks Carmen, I always appreciate advice! I'm thinking
about getting one, a life that is, later today. Don't want
to bother you, since I'm sure you're very busy with yours,
your life that is, but as long as you're helping me out here,
do you think I should wear my new (lightly used) Jimmy Choos
or my new Manolos to begin my LIFE?
Please answer ASAP since cocktail hour around these
parts starts promptly at 6.
TIA,
AJ

Clothes are not the main thing in her life; it's shoes, shoes and more
shoes.

She is too much...too much a lady, a fighter, a comedienne, a
fashion plate, and she wears her tiara well.
Don't judge.

Actually (and I just found this out in email from someone who was
with her), she went up to the doorman at a bar and said, Can I
come in even though I don't have on shoes and underwear?
He, of course, said yes. She's quite a character as well as a
very prominent person in this city (I'd love to give details
because it makes this story more amusing), but as we all know
the usenet's not the place to give details!

It's too bad that some people suck so much. Your whole tiara &
shoe–receivingness is a hoot, and your friends sounds like real gems. I'd
love to have video of the whole thing.
The tiara probably looks swell––with or without the fancy shoes. Wear them
and enjoy them as often as possible. (Think "eccentric" rather than
"crazy." I know you can pull it off.)
cofarb
p.s. I have my mom's Kennedy era tiara (which I keep on a shelf next to my
father's considerably older top hat).
