We've been out of town since Thursday, having a wonderful
time with friends, as well as some workrelated stuff
for me, which was also incredibly fun.
To mark an important event in my life, I received,
at a party, in my honor last evening:
1) a vintage tiara from the 1940s. Just gorgeous, in
mint condition. Rhinestones n sterling. There were
several women from New Orleans at this party,
one of whom was, in her youth, the Queen of Comus,
and those New Orleans women know their tiaras
(unlike me) and were blown away at its beauty
and quality. I myself am merely channeling Suzanne
Sugarbaker and wearing it around the house, lol.
2) A fellow shoealholic handed me a shoebox tied
in pink grosgrain with the New Yorker cover that
featured a pug and pair of shoes (my two favorite
things). Inside was a neverworn pair of Manolos
highheeled thongs with jeweled straps and a silver
andblack patterned kid inner sole. I have so never
been a thongwearer, but those days are over.
3) Another friend said it wasn't fair I had Manolos
but no Jimmy Choos. She took the gorgeous black
twistedkid highheeled Jimmy Choos off her feet
and insisted I take them. I'm familiar with expression
"giving someone the shirt off one's back," but not "giving
the Jimmy Choos off one's feet."
I love th stuff, but the real richness is the generous
spirit and love of my friends.
AJ, nicely shod and looking slightly absurd in ON
jeans, a Lands End ribbed tee shirt and a tiara
This weekend I went to Manolo and Choo stores and thought immediately of
you; infact, I showed my husband a pair of black Manolos and told him
that you owned a pair. I didn't try any on not wanting to feel badly
because I couldn't buy them. My winnings weren't that good.
Congratulations on your important event and wonderful gifts.
