Please advise: What's the rule on white?

wendyandbr...@webtv.net (Wendy)
I just bought a white spring jacket at Kohl's yesterday. It's not stark
white, but not ivory. Slightly off–white I guess. Can I wear this now?
It is officially spring. What's this rule about Memorial and Labor Day.
Is that just for white shoes? I am just so sick of my black wool
peacoat. And sick of winter, for that matter. The jacket is kind of a
quilted material. I can't decide if it is semi–Chanel or housecoat.
Kohl's is really a PIA about returns so I haven't decided if I'm stuck
with it b/c I like it or I am too afraid to return it. : ) I also bought
a multi–colored Rosetti handbag that just feels spring/summer. Maybe
Jenn or others that shop at Kohls have seen the jacket? It also came in
black.
Thanks,
Wendy

Wear it!!!
It is after all a jacket. It's not like you will have very much use
for it in the summer :)

Thanks, Nicky. I have been wearing it and since it's not stark white I
guess It seems ok.

Audrey, I think that since it's off–white it might be ok? Where I live I
may have some use for it in the summer also. MN summers aren't really
super–hot everyday. : P

The official rule according to Stacy and Clinton and the fashion
magazines is that there is no longer any rule about when you can
wear white.
In the South, the rule is: after Easter.
For those of us from Kentucky, the rule is: after the Kentucky Derby.
––AJ, who won't be wearing white until the first Saturday in May, lol
wendyandbr...@webtv.net (Wendy)
AJ, that is really interesting. I wonder what the rule for the north is?
Or if much of the north is even fashionable enough to have a rule, lol.
I am not sure 'most' of MN/ND is at the absolute top of the fashion
totem pole, but I am not speaking for everyone.

I think the rule in the north is Memorial Day. (We could ask Trilby
if she had any interest in us anymore, lol).
I think all rules are stupid but at the same time kind of like them,
so I observe the Derby one, just because I'm from Kentucky!
I say wear what you like when you like.

Cream or winter white can be worn all year. I have a pair of cream wool
flannel trousers and a cream Irish wool cardigan that are only suitable
for cold weather.
wendyandbr...@webtv.net (Wendy)
I thought so, scorpiogirl. I was hoping that was the case. It's not like
I am going around dressed in all white, which is something I might hold
off until Memorial day for, anyways.

Just darken it up with a black top and jeans, totally mod. Or throw it
over a skirt with boots. Anything goes in fashion these days, you just
have to be creative and work around those rules that were designed for
people with no eye for fashion!

Not sure how serious to take this (read: probably not very) but it's the most
interesting what my search found...

IMO the rule on no white until after day X was stupid to begin with, and
I've personally never followed it. Wear it in good health, no matter what
the date is!

I've heard pure white it ok in the winter, too, but I feel more
comfortable wearing that color in the summer.

It probably depends on the garment. I have three white sweaters and two
blouses I wear in winter but I would never think of wearing white shoes
in winter other than tennis shoes.

I concur.
Just don't wear it while eating anything served with a red sauce... =–o

dwacon, lol! Those Tide to Go sticks really are genius. The first day I
wore my white coat my two year old grabbed my sleeve after eating Oreos
and left a few dark fingerprints on it. TTG took care of it immeadiately
and the jacket is dry clean only.
