Jeans – are they uncomfortable or is it just me?

opity <nos...@nospam.com>
Here is a big question I have in my life. Do people really find jeans
comfortable or do they wear them because everyone else does?
I'm 22, I've been wearing sweatpants most of my life and for the past 3
years I've been wearing mostly jeans, because everyone else does and I
wanted to see what's so great about them.
I've shopped from 5–6 different brands. When i started about 3 years ago I
would buy bigger sizes, later on I would buy smaller sizes. They ALL (I
repeat ALL) feel uncomfortable when walking. Not extremely uncomfortable,
and I do walk good distances in them, but uncomfortable enough to notice
most of the time. I get the feeling of being pressed on my inner thighs.
If I wear my jeans high enough (belly button) this feeling decreases
quite a bit (because the "pressing point" is not pressing on the wide
part of the thighs) but it doesn't go away.
Sometimes if my jeans are loose and they go below my belly button when I
get home my inner thighs ache from that effect. Not very often though.
For some reason, tight pairs feel more comfortable than loose pairs. Go
figure.
I do have big thighs. Or so I used to think, because I tried measuring
again and again and I always find my thigh to be 21–22". From what I see
online this is considered normal. My waist is 32" and I usually wear sizes
31–33. Is it the way I walk? Is it just because my body doesn't like the
fabric? What is it?

I've worn jeans all my life and never noticed anything but I suppose it's
because I never knew any better. After my accident, I wore sweats around the
hospital then house for a long period of time (I'd never worn sweats before
and thought of them as an evil curse on humanity). Now I'm back to normal
(whatever that is?) I too find jeans do not feel good. Guess I've got some
shopping to do this weekend...

Depends on the jeans. I think a few are a bit tight and weird–fitting
but I love a nice clothy pair. If you're like me you like soft,
stretchy denim that isn't obviously stretchable (like with lines or
creases in it). Paris Blues and London Jeans are my favorites. Paris
Blues are more in my price range and I even find them more comfy. I
highly recommend them!

Forgot to mention that I'm a guy.

I think they make men's jeans with some stretch to them.

Maybe you need to try some of the trendier lines since they tend to have
thinner denim with some stretch.

i love my Robert Graham jeans – they are 98% cotton, 2% spandex.
not all RG jeans have spandex, so check the label. i got my pair
at Nieman's Last Call for $55, which i don't think is too bad.
after all, a new pair of Faconnable jeans costs ~$140 at Nordies.

you aren't wearing the right styles/brands if they are uncomfortable

I'm picturing Michael "Kramer" Richards on Seinfeld trying to break in a
pair. He scared a child walking like Frankenstein and angered a cop by
being unable to take a seat.
I have had some tight jeans in the past, but not quite that bad... but alas
I have given up jeans as I have, erm, outgrown the standard sizes made by
Versace ––– although I did see a size 54 pair today and briefly cornsidered
buying them and having our tailor take them in... but the image of myself
walking around with one big pocket in the back discouraged the purchase...

Bite the bullet and go into a big department store with lots of
different brands and try on every pair of jeans in your size.

Hi,
I'm quite relieved to see this post. I thought I was the only one
thinking how uncomfortable jeans were. But I do find them somewhat
versatile. That they match with almost anything. But I hate the
texture. To me it's not just the "pressing point" even the most thinner
jeans I bought they still feel too thick for me and I hate it when
there's an itch and I can't really give a good scratching :)
BTW can anyone suggest a good alternatives to jeans?
Thanks.

Very much belated, but classic jeans (with the
lap seams, etc) were never really comfortable in
my experience. Historically, they weren't designed
for comfort as much as for durability and (relative)
washability.
