I'm looking for "vintage clothing"....

"mngddess" <libra...@yahoo.com>
I hav a great Tahari velvet dress from the late 80's and would like to
find more. I'd also like to find some of the great Calvin Klien dresses
from the 80's. Any ideas in New York or Philly (boutiques) or online?
Thanks

Ebay! A lot less labor than shopping in person, though maybe not as
exciting. You can set up an ebay account to search for different
items/categories, and have them email you every day with new listings that
fit your criteria for "favorite searches". (Warning: May be addictive and
expensive!)
Of course, NYC and Philly have great thrift and consignment shops. Have you
looked in the yellow pages or Googled for those categories? I imagine that
most of the prices on ebay will be better, but if you shop in person you can
see and touch the merchandise before you buy.

p.s. Selling just a few vintage items on ebay. I spent a long time writing
the description of the Valentino dress, so I'd love a.f.ers to read it even
though it's a small size. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZcofarbQQhtZ–1

I would recommend you start by visiting the thrift shops in the Upper
East Side.
Some of them like Cancer Care have special sectionsfor designer pieces.
The prices for these pieces will be higher but usually they include big
name designs and the huge advantage over eBay is that you can be sure
that whatever you end up getting fits.
There is also the thrift shop in 17th Street which I lot of people
like. Once in a while this place has special sales where the key sale
items will be some big name pieces and a lot of other not so big stuff.
Personally I don't think the regular stuff in their racks is worth it,
but like I said some people like this place.
Other good places to check are resale shops like Tokyo Joe in the East
Village & Kavanagh in Midtown among others. If you do a google
search, you shoud be able to get a pretty comprehensive list.
One place which I like a lot is Legacy in Soho––though they're not
inexpensive. I believe the address is www.legacy–nyc.com. For
accessories I would highly recommend one of my favorites stores for
vintage stuff in all of nyc eyecandy in Lafayette Street. They have
awesome stuff.
Good luck,
