He was the man who helped the First Lady of Camelot look so glorious all the
time, so stylish and yet powerful. Cassini's fashion creations for
Jacqueline Kennedy in the sixties established worldwide trends and spawned
cottage industries that made copies of his outfits. He died Friday on Long
Island at the age of 92. No cause of death has been established so far.
Cassini was a wellknown designer when the young President and his lovely
wife asked him to create her statement in dress for Inauguration Day. He
ended up creating hundreds of outfits for her. In 2001, the Metropolitan
Museum of Art displayed many of them in the exhibit titled "Jacqueline
Kennedy: The White House Years." No funeral or memorial information has been
released.
