comfy shoes for work?

"Vampkel" <vamp...@aol.com>
posting for a friend who just got a new job. any suggestions appreciated!:
so here's my challenge. i'm working for a nightclub. and i'm also working
for the hotel. so i have to dress very sharp ... and wear great shoes.
well, today i wore super cute shoes and now my feet are in major pain. i was
pretty much standing up all day and running around this massive hotel and
pointy toes are not made for that.
wondering if you would mind posting something on af or somewhere? asking for
advice on cute shoes that are also comfortable? i would like something with
a heel. also if anyone has specific recs on a tie/lace–up shoe (as opposed
to a slip on shoe) that would be fab.
does anyone wear platforms anymore? those are always the most comfy.

Platforms are in style for spring. Look at nordstrom's shoe site or
zappos and look at styles. What brands are comfortable for you? Cute is
in the eye of the beholder so if you check out a site with lots of
styles you will find your cute comfortable shoes.

I've thought Aerosoles have been getting much cuter, and are supposed
to be comfortable...though I've never owned a pair. Still, I would
look there!

Danskos are fairly comfortable for constant walking, and I would buy this in
a heartbeat if they had my size (I'm a 35):

Many of its shoes are a bit frumpy, but I do have two stylish, very
comfortable pairs of heels from Naturalizer that I recently bought at
Zappos.com.
Also, platforms are making a comeback this year, so you should be able to
find them.

I have three pair of Dansko Babettes. Short break–in period. I also
scored a pair of them for 40 bucks off craigslist.

When I took DW on our semi–annual trek to the nearest Dansko shrine, I was
surprised to see that Dansko now makes pumps and heels (I kid you not)!
While no one will ever mistake them for Manolos or Choos, no one is going
to see them and immediately identify them as comfort shoes, either. They
look like they'd be appropriate at a bank, hotel, or nightclub where you're
on your feet all day. DW wasn't shopping for dress shoes and didn't try
them on, so I can't vouch for their comfort, but if they're made by Dansko
they can't be uncomfortable.

Not true. I thought that before I bought a pair of their ankle boots. I
have never had such pain from shoes (that wasn't from blisters) ever. They
fit well, but the ball of my foot and my heels felt like someone was
sticking spikes into them. I called them the Cruel Shoes (homage to Steve
Martin). I tried putting insoles etc. in them. They are just plain
uncomfortable.
I like Naot shoes and they have some cute platforms.

Breeze (I have) and Jewell are really comfy and really cute! The picture
and the footbed makes them look like they have more straps then they do.

I'm afraid I've had the same experience with them. I tried pounding the
pavement with a pair of Erikas and was ready to cry "uncle" at the end
of the day. I've heard that the "break–in period" is a myth and shoes
should feel comfy from the get–go, so I'll probably end up consigning
them. I think it depends mostly on the type of foot and arch you have
whether they'll work for you or not. I need a flexible shoe because I
have a high arch and these puppies are stiff.
I like Naot shoes and they have some cute
platforms.
I've heard plaudits for them also. I love
Kenneth Cole Reaction for style and comfort. I wore them over the
holidays and completely forgot I had them on. My cousin's very
fashion–conscious kid noticed my kitten heels and immediately recognized
them as Reaction. She's on her feet teaching all day and they're her
footwear of choice.

Second the Reaction rec. I LOVE mine and when I have to work standing
up, they are the most comfy shoes I own. They're the one pair of shoes
I own where I'm not dying to kick them off at the end of the day.
I also have some Aerosoles pumps, and they are good, but not as great
when it comes to the end of the day. I also adore my COACH suede tassel
pumps. SO soft, though pricey.

I own a bar/restaurant and for the longest time I have been crying the
fact that "cute" "fashionable" shoes for women in this industry and few
and far between. Even harder if you are like me and need to be able to
go from front of the house to back of the house, so you are looking at
non skid, closed, comfortable and cute!
Since we are a casual "bar/grill" type environment, and I own the
dump(!), I can get away with a variety of sport type shoes. But
still.... there are days when I want to be an adult! Dansko closed
back clogs have worked for me on 14 hour days when I wear pants. But
I like the ones that another poster linked. I will have to start
looking again.
Thanks for opening this topic.
