IIRC, you're in CA where they don't let AT&T (nee SBC nee PacBell)
have enough return to deploy Project Pronto.
Latest rumor is that Ed Whitacre is going to pick up BellSouth so he
can put most of the old AT&T back together again. He'll have
everything but the parts that went into Qwest and Verizon, as well as
the hardware manufacturing.

I guess YMMV must apply to the ability to get DSL vs. cablemodem.
My cable TV company either hasn't figured out that you can make money
offering highspeed Internet access or they don't want to upgrade
their physical plant.

got any ideas where I can find this?
Standard electronicsstore item but you've got to have a cable company
that does cablemodem. Not all of them do.
