Eye makeup question

"A. Pasch" <harrietthe...@ameritech.net>
Two of my favorite eye makeup products appear to have been discontinued and
I'm wondering if there is anyone here who might be able to track down a
substitute. Since receiving Tony & Tina's Herbal Eye Base as a SS gift a
couple of years ago, I've never made a move without it. It's a neutral
cream base that makes all eye makeup look better and last longer. Is
Benefit's Lemon–Aid a fair substitute?
The other product is Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Eye Shadow, which was also creamy
rather than powdery –– I always applied it with my finger rather than a
brush.
Any recommendations? Things I should avoid? Commiserations? All will be
much appreciated.

Paula Dorf makes a great eye primer. I buy two at a time because I am
afraid it may be discontinued.
I have no recs for a creamy shimmery shadow but I love the powder
shimmer in Stila's rain and shine palette warm colors.

I have been using Lemon–Aid pre–AF and I love it. It's a good base and
I often use it as a highlighter in the style of Touche Éclat

I feel your pain. I picked up the T&T eye base at Marshall's several months
ago. Loved it so much that I went back and picked up a second one. I use
it as concealer too. I can tell you for sure that Benefit's FYEye is not a
substitute for the T&T. I tried Lemon–Aid a number of years ago and, iirc,
it is not nearly as soft and blendable as the T&T. (One of the things I
love about the T&T is that I don't have to tug at my skin to apply it.)
Some of the old Benefit matte creaseless cremes were great shadow bases but
they are gone too.
You might want to check ebay for the T&T. When I realized it had been
discontinued, I looked on ebay and saw a ton of that brand. I assume other
people picked it up at Marshall's and similar places and were looking to
cash in.
For a shadow, I love, love, love Paint Cosmetiques powder shadow that they
call Cloud. (It used to be called "Rain" but for some reason they changed
the name.) On the website, it looks blue but it is a totally different
shade irl. It is a light beigey color with very subtle shimmer. I can't
wear other shimmer shadows anymore––too crepey––but this stuff is perfect.
I usually use it over the T&T base, sometimes topped with another shadow.
I stocked up on this color because I'm so afraid they will discontinue it.

I love Laura Geller's eye/lip spackle which comes in the same little
tub (one side for the eye, the other for the lip). You can purchase it
at www.qvc.com and all her products are wonderful and affordable.
For creamy make–up I use Signature Club A. Adrienne Arpel's foundation
and blush sticks are wonderful and blush sticks double for your
eyeshadow in neutral colors. You can see her collection at www.hsn.com

Is the lip stuff unscented? unflavored?
Can you compare the texture of this to something I might recognize––like
Benefit Lemon–Aid or...? It's hard to find a product that is soft and
creamy yet really does the primer job. (The dearly departed Tony & Tina
might be too soft and greasy for me in summer but I love how it works in
colder weather.)
ftr, I don't see why they packaged the two spackles in the same container.
Even if you really did want and use both, you're going to use up one before
you use up the other.

Try checking out Shu Uemura's Pro Eye Concealer as a substitute for the Tony
and Tina. This is a wonderful creamy base that really does a great job
prepping the lid for eyesahdow application. Goes on creamy, but dries to a
powder finish. On weekends, I will sometimes just wear this alone to even
out any redness or darkness on my lids.
As for the BB Shimmer Eye Shadow, I am also a huge fan of this (I have been
hoarding the Pale Silver) and use it at the inner rims of my eyes to
brighten and open them up. I love how it also has a mirror on the
inside––they just don't make stuff like they used to, huh? If you use
either the same color as me, or for the same purpose, you might want to
check out the Nars Multiples (they come in an array of colors). Super
honking huge and last forever, and they are also creamy/powdery.
Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for all your suggestions. I can't wait to try some of
these things. Audrey, I took a chance and ordered both the Paula Dorf base
and the Stila shadow you recommended from Sephora. The trio looks very
similar to the colors I've been using and need to replace. I've been
wanting to try Stila and thought this was the perfect opportunity. Cofarb,
thanks so much for the ebay suggestion. I've got a bid in for some T&T, so
I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I'm also interested to hear about Paint
Cosmetiques –– the crepe factor is exactly what I'm trying to combat. I'll
be in the neighborhood of the one store in Illinois that sells the line in
the next couple of weeks, so I'm planning a shopping trip. Thanks also to
you and Karen for the info on Lemon–Aid. I think I'm going to see if I can
test it out next time I'm near a brick and mortar store. Leilani, thanks
for your recommendations too. I'll be checking out the ShuUemura concealer
as well. As for BB Shimmer, I use both the Pale Silver and the Pink (or
possibly Pink Gold –– the label's worn off, so I can't tell), also on the
inner rims of my eyes. I haven't tried Nars shadows before, but I love
their foundation, so perhaps I'll check that out as well.
My shopping list just got a lot longer. Thanks to all!

I don't have any recs on shadow primer (believe it or not, I still have
some Revlon Color Lock stashed away). But I do recommend Awake's
Million Brilliance shadows, which are sort of powdery/creamy and which
you absolutely must apply with fingers, not brush. Very sadly, though,
these only seem to come in three colors: pale green, medium blue and a
terrific light bronze.
