As a young girl I was always interested in makeup; always wanting
to wear makeup and play with makeup. I was fascinated with the results
that could be achieved when using makeup and when applying it the
proper way. As I got older and began trying out various kinds of makeup
for myself, I acquired certain techniques that when done correctly,
produced satisfying results.
Each part of your face should be considered when applying makeup;
this includes, hygene, utensils, and skin products. Application is as
follows:
ALL OVER FACE:
This applies to skin care and basic skin makeup. Every morning and
night, it is best to wash your face with a normal hypoallergenic bar
of soap (A nice choice is dove.) If your face is dry, oily, or any
other texture, you still need to use a moisturizer. Just pick one that
fits your skin texture well. During hot weather, or when you're
exercising, it's nice to use one of those disposable facewipes
midday. Always use sunscreen, no matter how sunny it is. You should
even use it in the winter. Just because it's cold outside, doesn't mean
the sun isn't out and it definitely doesn't mean you can't get a
sunburn. (Think about when you ski.) To begin applying foundation,
choose a good makeup brush or sponge (that can easily be thrown away
after several uses) and gently start blotting the foundation into your
skin (I prefer a matte' mousse foundation). Make sure that the makeup
is thoroughly and evenly blended into skin. It is not good to wipe or
smear the foundation onto your face. It is more likely to clog pores,
and makes for a very unnatural look. To cover up a blemish, make sure
you moisterize. Again, take a sponge or a small makeup brush(available
at most drugstores/beauty supply stores) and dip it into the
foundation. Make sure when buying foundation that it has a yellow base,
beause otherwise it will look unnatural on your face. Cover the
blemish lightly and rub it in slightly. Then, use a powder puff with
some yellowtoned powder and set your foundation.
LIPS:
Looking for the best lipcolor for you? It's easymix your own! If you
find a lip color you love, but could be a tiny bit lighter or darker,
add another color and see how it turns out! You can't find out anything
without experimenting. To begin, you may want to fill in your lips
entirely with a lip penil or use a lipstick brush. The outline makes
for a more valuptuous lip, and really allows them to pop! To make a
lipstick stain, apply your lipstick and blot your lips with a tissue in
between them. After, you can cover with a gloss. Matte lipsticks give
the illusion of a hard flat lip, while lip glosses give the illusion of
a more playful, luscious lip. These are some factors to keep in mind
when applying makeup to your lips. Something you should watch out for
is the use lead in lipsticks. The longer the lipstick is said to last,
the more lead it contains. This can be harmful to your health, and can
contribute to an increase in cancer.
EYES:
There are so many ways to wear eye color. The many kinds of eye
products include powders, creams, pencils, and more. Of course, you
can't forget mascara! As with lipstick, you can also make your own eye
shadow, by mixing two or even three at a time directly on your eyes.
The trick to applying eye makeup is not to be a perfectionist. You can
even use your fingers! Even when you are using liner, and applying it
as close to your lashes as possible, you can smudge it a little.
Mascara is the second most important product for a woman, next to her
lip gloss. Mascara comes in a varitey of colors, ranging from black to
brown or even blue!
**It is important to note, that when wearing makeup, there should only
be one dominant feature that sticks out more over another. For example,
if you are planning on doing a dramatic smokey eye, you should stick to
lipsticks that are light and simple. However, if your lips are your
best feature, your eye makeup should be toned down.
CHEEKS:
Blush is instant pretty, especially for those with pale skin looking
for a way to brighten it up. Like eyeshadow, blush comes in many forms
including powders, gels/stains, pencils, and creams (my personal
favorite.) In order to achieve the most natural look with blush, you
should apply the blush from the apples of your cheeks in an ovallike
motion, following the natural line of your cheek bones, and up to about
your hair line. If you're unsure as to where your cheek bones are, an
easy way to find out is by smilingBIG!
For a natural glow, a bronzer can be applied over the blush lightly,
giving the illusion of a sunkissed face.
These are some of the techniques that I've found to work best when
applying makeup. I hope you are able to use some of the tips I have
discussed today in your everyday makeup ritual. Let me know what you
think, and if these techniques worked for you!
