Thermage vs. Microdermabrasion?

kbrown3...@aol.com
Hi,
I have my first appointment with aesthetician tomorrow to get the scoop
on fixing fine lines, puffy undereyes and sagging jowls. Has anyone
here tried either thermage or microdermabrasian? I would love to have
some feedback, as the side effects sound scary!
Thanks, K. B.

I have heard a few things about Thermage, mostly positive. A few years
back they had a few problems but doctors were recertified/retrained in
2005. Check on the Thermage site, www.thermage.com, to see if the doctor
who will be performing your procedure is 2005 recertified. I hope this
helps. ~Sally

You really can't compare the two procedures. Microdermabrasion is used
to help exfoliate dead skin cells which cause can add to the appearance
of wrinkles, fine lines, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, etc.
Thermage is used to firm up sagging skin. Microdermabrasion is usually
not an overly expensive procedure, while Thermage usually runs around a
few thousand dollars depending on who is performing the procedure. You
can always google both to try and get as much information as you can on
your own, especially with regard to side effects. Microdermabrasion is
relatively safe, but Thermage can have some unwanted side effects, but
not everyone experiences them.

Thermage is not an invasive procedure on the pro forma surface
––however it's not without its downside
there is some pain involved.. because you are heating the skin and
patients are usually given some pain killers.. during the procedure..
not just topical
also you might want to investigate other laser procedures that are
out there too. fraxel is one to think about
thermage often requires up to 5 passes and you aren't feeling great..
some see results immediately with increased firming over months..
others don't see as much. you would want to speak to someone regarding
this procedure and how many they have done

Thanks, Stevie. I've been a voyeur on this site for a long time and am
a big fan of your info! You have two blogs, right? Anything else I
could subscribe to? I am also investigating laser procedures, so would
welcome any insight you may have on that. Thanks again.

the newest in lasers are the fraxel and the gemini. I have talked to
some major docs and the jury is still out on some of these newer pieces
but the docs who are part of the investigational studies absolutely
love them. I have 2 docs in the OC who rec the lasers over thermage..
one who loves both thermage and fraxel.
then there is restylane for the deeper lines..
it's all really interesting
