OT: Cat Scram

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
This is the device we bought. DH bought the 9v adaptor at Wal–Mart much
less expensive than the one at Radio Shack. He put two cats in the room
at different times and each one ran away immediately

I didn't realize such a thing existed. We don't have a cat (although I'd
like one) but having two dogs and a birdie (I love my birdie–Maggie) it just
wouldn't fit in to the picture.
This is something to keep in mind for a present though as I do have a lot of
friends who have cats. Thanks for the info...

Unfortunately, that won't answer my current problem.
Our old Siam boy died in December, the lone cat – out Siam girl – was
miserable and lonely.
So, we brought home a beautiful (neutered) half–grown tiger from the
local no–kill rescue.
She hated him and he was miserable and lonely.
DH went back to the rescue and brought home his brother.
Now, we have a pair, we call them "the wrecking crew", who are great
together, and one who is very needy (although she and the new boy are
becoming friendly) and wants to be close to us at night.
The problem is that the "crew" like to tear around all night and wake the
three of us (DH, me, Siam girl) up all the time. I know they'll calm down
eventually – cats usually do about the second year – but . . .
I need to keep her in, them out, and get a decent night's rest.
Anyone who is owned by cats knows that simply closing the bedroom
door will ~not~ solve the problem!

I have a cheap and frugal way:
Pick up cat, smooch cat, play with cat's paws, more cat smooching,
dance with cat, baby talk to cat, more smooching.
Cat begins bunny footing, put cat down, cat scrams.
Very effective.
Of course then the cat puts: "Annoy offending biped" on her to do list
for later.

Makeup, it takes believing in. Like a magic carpet, it's belief that
makes it fly. Otherwise, it's just a rug.
If you believe in it, makeup has a magic all it's own.
Of course, makeup is only dime–store magic. But it works well enough,
when it's used properly.",

movie of the same name.

Yes, the mornings we get to sleep in, one of the cats knocks on the door
at 6 a.m.

I can relate to this. My cats are calmer now, most of the time, but for a
while I put an extra litter box and food and water dish in the basement
and that was their "bedroom". It was two floors away, so I couldn't hear
them and it's the only time I let them down there, so they thought it was
a good adventure.
We live in a typical California house – no basement or attic, otherwise I'd
try that.

That's our situation too. So far none of the cats are residing in the
living room with the cat scram. My husband is ready to put them in
every room so they can be outdoor cats. We have oppossums at night so I
don't leave food outside.

What about leaving the vacuum cleaner out? Not turned on, of course.
Sometimes, we leave the vacuum cleaner in a doorway, or at the bottom
of the stairs. They are so frightened of it, they won't walk near it.

A door is something of which the cats are always on the wrong side!

Our moggies are strictly indoor cats, but I'm thinking of buying one of the
units for use in the dining room when I'm serving a formal meal OR sewing.

I wonder if the gadget would work on the 'possums?

The only thing that scares the boys is a running dishwasher!

Yes, mine would think nothing of a quiet vacuum cleaner. I have to use
the dust buster to get them out of the house.
