How long should a manicure last?

JeanneP <no...@Real.address.org>
I don't ever have my nails done, but I'm considering it for an upcoming
family wedding. I need to travel for the wedding, and my time there will
be hectic.
Can I get the manicure (and maybe a pedicure if I'm to wear open toe
shoes) on the Wednesday evening before I travel, or should I get it the
Saturday of the wedding? How much time should I budget for these
things? Can I supply my own polish? This is mostly because my hands
shake too much for me to do my own nails and stay within the lines.
Thanks,
JeanneP

You can get your nails done on the Wednesday. You can always supply
your own polish. I always bring mine no matter where I have them done.

That's definitely a YMMV thing. For me, a pedicure would almost
certainly be OK in that time range. A manicure would be more iffy.
Do you have enough time for dry run in advance? Have your nails done
on a Wednesday, and see how they look over the weekend. If they're not
in good shape, you have your answer!

I agree, and I have been having my nails and toes done for ten years.

Now THIS is a great idea.
You could also get gel nails applied for the wedding as a special
treat. I have gels and the polish stays on for two weeks at a time.
All that I have to do to prolong its life is give it a top coat of
clear every two days.
Polish stays on really well on acrylics, too. I greatly prefer my
gels, though.
Polish recommendations: OPI is always a keeper. I find that any OPI
color that has an element of frost in it stays on longer than the matte
shades. I am also a very big fan of Sally Hansen, too. The SH polish
that has the little diamond on the bottle (it's an actual tiny
"diamond" set into the glass) is particularly terrific.
Have a super fun time at the wedding!

This trick of applying clear polish every other day to your nails will
work on your natural nails as well. The only caveat is that each time
you reapply that clear polish coat you have to be careful about no
smeering the color while they dry.
IMO with no special clear–polish treatment I would say a regular
manicure may last a few days. With the effort of applying clear
polish....I would say a week. After that your cuticles' growth will
start to show and your nail edges will start to loose color no matter
what you do.

On my natural nails, a manicure starts to chip in only a few days. But I am
hard on my nails and a clutz. For some people, the polish lasts a full week
(or at least I was told that). If you are worried, I'd go with a lighter
color. It's much more forgiving when it starts to chip and easier to do your
own touch ups w/o botching it.
Enjoy your manicure!!
