Primers & Foundation

"Tricia" <tri...@home.vic.au>
I have just started using Dior's primer (only primer I could find here)
and I find it works far better than not using a primer at all especially
on my not so young skin ;)
I've done a Google of alt.fashion and saw some older posts about LM
primer and EI primer being the best? As the posts are oldish I was
wondering what the general consensus of the better primers are today.
I've found a MAC store which I want to check out (finally) and I know
they have a primer, what do the AF's think of it? I'm actually hoping to
get a bit of a makeover when I visit them, currently a Revlon Age
Defining girl but willing to change if something else is better or
better coverage.
Being in Aust. I may be limited with my choices but I'd still like your
opinions. Thanks

IMO you don't need a primer if you prep your skin with moisturizer and
sunscreen before you apply your makeup. I also use Paula's Choice
anti–oxidant serum and the foundation just slides on afterward.

I do moisturise but don't use sunscreen. So basically the serum acts
like a primer?
Thanks

them, currently a Revlon Age
Defining girl but willing to change if
I wore Age Defying for several years. I switched to True Match about a year
ago. I recently went to Sephora and tried on a few different foundations,
and decided I still liked True Match better. The True Match has more
coverage and stays on longer than Age Defying. The nice thing about Age
Defying is it's moisture, but now I glob on sunscreen and anti–oxidant
first, so I don't need the extra moisture.

Thanks Miss Livvy, will look out for it !

Primers are pretty good to prevent oily or combo skin from changing the
texture/color/ durability of the foundation..
I have been testdrivig Sue Devitt Primer and Per'Fekt primer and love
both.. excellent slip on the skin and they work really well

You don't have to limit yourself to primers that are available only
where you live. Sephora carries a wide variety of make–up primers in a
variety of prices (Smashbox is one of the very best). Also www.qvc.com
carries Smashbox products as well as Laura Geller and Laura's Spackle
is amazing. You're right though, make–up not only goes on much better,
but the primer sets it for the day.

I looked up Sephora and it appears it only ships to USA & Canada, I'm in
Australia.
But I'll have to look around to see if those products are available
here – thanks

Yes that is what I have found, although my skin isn't as oily as it used
to be (age related) it still makes a big difference to me

Tricia – I realized after I posted that you live in Australia. Perhaps
you can have a friend from the USA or Canada order it for you and ship
it to Australia.

No I don't really, but that's ok there seems to be a few different
options, saw Smashbox on a info–tv thing. Looks like it's worth checking
out! Thanks Susan

http://tinyurl.com/dcw2s Laura Mercier does make a lovely primer and
you can order it from www.adorebeauty.com in Australia. Kate used to
post here and I love to order from her. I've placed two orders already
in the past few months and her service is excellent. She may have other
primers on her site.

Unfortunatelly, Sephora will not ship outside US and Canada.
It won't even take non–US/non–Canadian credit cards (VISA, AMEX), even
if the item is to be shipped to the US...

Thanks Audrey, I've just order the smashbox one and a mirenesse one. But
will try out the LM next time, primers are new to me but I love what
they do! – thanks for finding it for me though and I'm saving your
message for future reference!

Tricia, I've never let living in Oz limit my shopping! You can get most
things through ebay, or sign up for something like Shop the States, where
you get your stuff sent to a third party and they send it on to you. Even
for things available here, it is still cheaper to buy online from the US. I
hardly ever pay Australian retail anymore, it's too big a rip off.
