Sally Hansen Creme Hair Remover (Face)

"Jamie" <zuschlag–sequ...@tds.net>
I used this product this afternoon and it worked nicely at removing the hair
on my upper lip – which my son insists was never there! "No mom, you don't
have a mustache!"
I usually pay $7 or $8 every time I need my lip waxed, which is more
frequent than I'd like to admit so I decided to try a product myself. I had
already tried the wax with fabric strips and found I really didn't have the
control that I needed for precision removal. And you're not supposed to
re–go over an area that's already been waxed, so you're stuck if you've
missed any hairs. What's up with that?!
With this, you just smooth the creme on to a certain level of thickness
avoiding the lips – a little hard if you have hairs close to them. The
directions recommend checking ease of hair removal by wiping some off after
3 minutes but leaving on no more than 8 minutes total. I ended up leaving
mine on for 6 minutes, being busy with DS2 while waiting, and tidied the lip
area with a wet q–tip.
There was one confusing directive, though, that you're not supposed to rub
the creme into the skin upon application. But you're supposed to wipe it
off with tissue? I ended up with an irritated upper lip that looked
wonderful! No redness but, yes, irritation. It comes with a skin
conditioning lotion to apply after removal and after 5 minutes of noticeable
burning, it felt better. I ended up washing my face and re–applying the
conditioner after awhile.
The bottom line is that the product works wonderfully but did irritate my
skin. It's probably because I left it on too long (wiping it with the
tissue made it worse, I'm sure) because the test didn't cause me discomfort.
I will keep using this and try to leave it on a shorter amount of time. I
like that I can use it before the hairs are very long as opposed to the
required minimum hair growth for waxing!
It was $6.99 at CVS and when I checked the instructions inside the box
before buying, I found a $1 coupon which I used to purchase that product.
There must be 30–40 uses in this tube.

you could rip your skin off if you go over the same area more
than once. or you could create blisters, or other skin
irritation. i won't even do lip waxing at work. i do eyebrows
only.

Just curious...Do you dye people's eyebrows, too, David? Just curious. I've
always told my cousin's wife (who's a licensed hairstylist) that that's the
thing I'd worry most about. If they got the dye in their eyes that would
just be horrific! Tattooing eyebrows scares me, too.

I use a plastic spatula (that came with my tube of dipilatory) to remove
the cream. I suspect that a plastic spoon or dull–edged plastic knife
would work as well.

I do mine at home with that Clairol semi–perm vegetable dye and a q–tip
– can't think of the name – a bottle lasts years. Sally Beauty Supply
will know the product I mean.
As for depils for the lip, there isn't on on the market that I have
found which doesn't sting, burn or irritate in some way, plus they
don't do the job 100% either. Add a mag mirror and Tweezerman to your
arsenal.

you can use specially formulated dyes for your eyebrows and
lashes. but you should never bleach or colour your eyebrows with
permanent colour. you see, you have these little holes in your
skin called pores. and pores absorb liquid – you don't want the
skin around your eyes absorbing all the nasty chemicals in hair
colour and bleach. i'm told that doing so can cause blindness.
personally, i've never blinded anyone (but then again, i don't
colour or bleach eyebrows), but i'm told that it's possible. and
it says right on the box not to use on eyebrows or lashes. why
would anyone want to risk their eyesight just to make their brows
match?
but like i said, there is dye that is made especially for lashes
and brows.
