SS arrives in Australia

lollygirlb...@hotmail.com
Firstly I would like to thank Nancy my SS so very much for this whole
journey that we have been on. She has been in constant contact to see
if the most impressive SS gift that she sent had received and today it
finally was! It's Christmas in February.... We both thought it was
lost somewhere in Neverland. Nancy even offered to send a replacement
gift to me. It is a testament to her kindness and generosity.
Anyway back to the gift! Nancy definitely got it right and I could not
have asked for a better range of goodies. I received the following:
A very cute Santa card telling me that I better watch out!
3 massive tubes of Queen Helene Masks (2 mint julep and 1 mud) – my HG
of masks, I was scraping the dregs out of the last one I had when I
visited the US in 2005.
And a red and black BBW gift bag full of treasure! I received:
A trio of burt's bees lotion
Breathe calm daily vitamin body lotion
Cucumber melon bubble bath
Look ma new hands renewing hand lotion
Le couvent repairing hand cream
A burts bees watermelon lip shimmer
And wait for it CO Bigelow Lemon Boby Lotion and a Mentha Lip Tint (I
have been drooling over these on the net) . I have immediately them
on.
Thank again Nancy for making my first AF SS so memorable! I can't wait
until this year!
And big kudos to Jennifer for organising this and keeping in touch!

Wow that took a long time, did she send it surface mail?
Best postage time Australia to the US for me is 6 days. Best time Australia
to the UK 3 days!!! Must have caught the plane right :)

Yes it was sent surface mail – not sure what went wrong as I regularly
sent things to the US and received them in less than one month via
surface mail. I am just assuming it was a one off thing... maybe it
got lost by Aussie Post!

i sent a package to Australia once. a guy ordered a book from me
on Amazon, and the shipping charge only covered surface mail.
that book took damn near 8 weeks to reach him! he was emailing
me saying he wanted his money back. but then a few days later he
emailed to say that he'd gotten the book and was happy.
airmail's definitely the way to go, but it's expensive – nearly
twice the cost of surface mail.

Postage is a rip off in my opinion. I sent a well wrapped parcel to the UK
for xmas and it arrived all torn and f**ked and the pressies inside had the
xmas paper ripped off etc. Another parcel arrived from Melbourne to Perth
and it looked like it had been trodden on. The postal worker just stared at
me blankly when I complained and waved the squashed box at her.
people just don't care anymore. that's the long and the short of
it. paying for a service doesn't mean that you'll get good
service. i ordered a pizza once while i was at work. the guy
walked in and handed me the pizza, and all the cheese was on one
side. it looked like it had been mishandled, and all the cheese
had slid to one side. one of my cow–orkers came up about then
and told me they'd seen the guy taking it out of the car, and he
was holding it sideways! can you believe that!? a horizontal
food served vertically! of course i called the pizza place and
had another one sent out. oh, and like your postal lady, the guy
just looked at me blankly when i said it was unacceptable.
glad you got your package!

I did send it surface mail. When I put the package together, I never
once gave a thought to how much it would weigh!
So, I went into the UPS store on 12/5, thinking I had days to spare.
The guy gave me the options, and all the air–mail options were like
US$80!!!
So, I chose the surface mail, which was more like US$20, and he said it
would take 25 – 30 days. I thought that was tight, but OK, not to
mention about US$60 cheaper!!
The only problem was that there was no tracking option at all.
Maybe if I had gone to the actual post office, instead of a UPS store,
that would have been available? I don't know.
So, when mid–January hit, and still no package for my Santee, I was a
bit concerned. I worried that the extra holiday help at the UPS place
maybe didn't know what he was doing. I worried that customs
intercepted it, because when I looked on Drugstore.com, they wouldn't
ship the QH mask to Australia for some customs reason. I have probably
put homeland security hot on my trail now, and will be secretly
wire–tapped.
At any rate, the long and short (or long and long) of it is, it has
arrived!

Makes me wonder why I pay to have my stuff kicked about really....
Oh and good luck with the wire tap, maybe wear a tinfoil hat ;)

Agreed David, customer service (in some cases) just seems to be degrading
beyond repair!

Something we all have to keep in mind. I know I've learnt some lessons and
will continue to do so and price, shouldn't always be the determining factor
but it seems today in many/most cases it is. For many of us, service with a
smile is a rare breed...

Here's another example of poor customer service. I am in line at
Sephora while two SAs are chatting. A customer asks if they sell Jane
Iredale powder. I am the one to tell her which salons carry it but
while she is at a Sephora she should try Bare Escentials. Then she asks
what foundation and powder I use. In the meantime the SAs are not even
concerned that a stranger, me, is helping their customer.

have you ever seen that movie, "Maid in Manhattan"? there's a
scene where JLo's character jumps down a SA's throat cos the SA
is on the phone gossiping with a girlfriend while JLo is standing
there needing help. it's a good scene. you'd probably get a
kick out of it.

Yes, I've seen it. Our Sephora opened before the holidays. It's a
great place for college students to work. Unfortunately, they just
don't have the proper training of retail experience. When I was a
college student working in retail I would be afraid to talk to
co–workers when customers were present for fear my boss would see me and
fire me. This is the second time I've noticed this lack of attention to
customers. I may just be bossy enough to call and speak to the store
manager.

I called the store and spoke with the store manager who was very
apologetic. I just stressed that although the temptation to chat is
always there, they must consider the customer first. She was quite
nice.

It's a first step ahmward, good on you for having a go at sorting it out.
I hope you notice a change when you go back to the store :)

It would be interesting to know what the manager actually thought. It
is in fact, her wrongdoing in that her employees were not trained
properly.
It is sort of natural not to look to ourselves first for the mistake.
I wonder if she simply thought that the sales people were lazy/aloof
whatever. They simply just not have known better, which is pretty sad,
one would think that being polite is something learned from an early
age.
