Stila going down??

"Jen in ND" <jeNDo...@gmail.com>
Got this in Paula's Beauty Bulletin this morning.
http://www.cosmeticscop.com/bulletin/020906–full.htm#6
Not sure if you can read the newsletter from that link, but it says
that EL has decided to sell Stila because of 3rd quarter 2005 operating
losses of 3.3 million. No buyer yet, but it is listed on EL's
corporate roster as a "discontinued brand".

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
(I'm trying to resist the urge to go buy a ton of their stuff, just to
boost their bottom line!)

Yeah, they released the news a few weeks ago. Rumor has it LVMH is the
front runner and will buy the line. They've gotten quite a few offers.
Someone is going to buy Stila, so no worries about it discontinuing.

Doesn't surprise me. A friend of mine is a buyer for cosmetics at Nordie's
and says that Stila doesn't do well at their site.

Well, I know that I haven't bought any Stila products in the last couple
of years and I used to be an addict. I've not found any of the products
very new and exciting and that includes the packaging. I still love the
quality of the eye shadows but haven't needed to replace anything and I
haven't seen any new colors that interest me in a very long time.

I love the golden moon palette I bought in December but the shadows just
crumble whenever I swipe a brush in them. On the other hand my BB or
Shu shadows never have this problem.

I think Stila has become over shadowed by the many cosmetic lines that
have come on to the scene. My personal favorite line for eye shadow is
MAC. Why? Because they offer so many textures and colors. They
constantly add new colors. Stila just seems to have the same colors
year after year and too many limited edition items.

Stila is doing quite well. The biggest problem perhaps is that jeanine
lobell now lives in NYC and her company is based in LA.. it's not going
down and the sales are pretty darn good.

And they took it out of Saks too, but then they also lost Px.

I am sorry to hear that Stila is having difficulties. Their eye shadows
are the absolute best. Also, everyone I have ever dealt with
associated with that line, from the sales associates at the local
Nordstrom stores to the national makeup artists, has been very helpful
and enthusiastic about the line.
On the other hand, I never liked any of their foundations, or the
mascara. Everything else is just pretty much run of the mill.
Hopefully, they will arrange for some new financing so the line can
continue. I would definately hoard the Barefoot Contessa shadow if I
thought they were about to go under.

Obviously EL has more than it can handle and Stila needs its cute
advertising and products to lure in those young girls the way it did
when it first started. Yes I know not all first buyers were young girls
but the cardboard packaging and marketing was definitely not aimed at
me. It was ok though because I certainly bought my share and more of
shadows and other products. I stopped about the time of the fragrances
which were too sweet for me.

I hadn't thought about it but that's around the time I stopped, as well.
I really loathe all of those fragrances, which I had been looking
forward to smelling before they hit the shelves. It wasn't just a matter
of thinking didn't smell like I had hoped. I dislike them enough that I
wouldn't have taken a bottle of any of them if they were giving them out
for free (except maybe to give to someone else who I knew liked it).
