(What) would you "bedazzle"?

"cofarb" <do...@cofarb.com>
A few months ago, I acquired a tool that is used to install rhinestones,
snaps, etc. (It's not actually a Bedazzler, but a vintage sewing/craft tool
that does the same thing.)
I'm looking for suggestions on what, where, in what design and to what
degree I might use it. Keep in mind that I'm a grownup who likes to look *a
little* funky. I do *not* want to look like my sugardaddy just hit it big
in an Atlantic City casino.<g>
(Or should I just put it away and forget about it?)

Big peace symbol on back of denim jacket. Red, white and blue
rhinestones.
Bring back the 60s, cofarb!

Oh, I think it could be fun!
What are the fasteners like? I was wondering if you couldn't get some
velvet slippers and maybe put some rhinestones on them. Just for some
cute things to wear out of the shower or something. But I'm not sure
what's on the underside of the fastener, so that might not be
comfortable.
Maybe as a substitute for a brooch on a hat? That can look cute and
I've seen floppy–brim hats now and then in the summertime.
On a tote bag? Fancy barbecue apron? "My cooking is DIVAlicious!" :)

I wear gloves a lot. When I don't need super–warm gloves, I wear black
chenille ones that I try to buy in batches to avoid single–glove syndrome.
They would probably look cute with some rhinestones. I have to see how they
fare in the washing machine.
I'm getting very inspired by the suggestions.

Hmmmm, how about the curved edge on the front pockets of some blue
jeans that have sort of lost their pizazz?? Just a touch of va–va–voom
on the front of the jeans might look great. If you decide to put a
rhinestone or two on the back pockets, don't get carried away, two many
can look a little "Dolly Parton" if you know what I mean.

This is a great idea! And I say.....maybe you could embellish the long
strap of an older but still useable purse? Not wildly, of course, but a
little goes a long way.
If you have any cloth belts, you could do those. If the machine is heavy
duty enough to punch through leather, it would work for those belts as well.
Scarves could work but the rhinestones couldn't be too heavy or they'd weigh
the piece down.
If you have any vanity lamps in your bath that could use some pizzazz – you
could do the lower edge of the shade here and there. It doesn't matter what
others think – not many will see your private bath!
Edge the collar of an old shirt with them at the points.
Any hats? Cool for hats.
Fabric bags for the beach or for books? Could work.
Anything that you use only for show (throws, towels) is fair game.

Well, if you do start bedazzling dog collars, let me know. My black
lab Maggie would look doggielicious in a bedazzled collar!

Michele317 embellishes all sorts of inexpensive gloves and scarves with
embroidery, crochet etc. so a bedazzled glove or scarf may be next
season's holiday gift from cofarb.

Love the purse idea! My every–occasion purse is a Chapelier backpack
(identical to the original Kate Spade but, imho, better made). I have it in
a gzillion colors. I often stick a pin on the front of a backpack.
Rhinestones would be fun.
All these great ideas. I just have to be careful no to start putting
rhinestones on *every*thing. ("Here, kitty...here, kitty!")

where do you get more stones from when you run out? do you have to buy them

collars. I would probably do that.

I would bedazzle the strap on some of my purses. The Kathy Van Zeeland one
that I already got in Portland, OR at Meir Frank has silver studs on the
handle and everyone loves it and always says "Oooo! Cool purse! Love it!".
That's what I'd do with a beadazzler, I guess. I'm not too in to belts, but
I definitely know some gals who'd probabally use it for that.

I imagine it's a Michael's or sewing store item. I should check it out
before I use up the supply. I think they are standard rhinestones and
snaps––nothing proprietary.
It was part of my mother's extensive collection of "everything related to
sewing". I brought it home on the plane a few weeks ago. It was in my
carryon bag at National Airport. Even though the tool is basically a
heavy–duty hole–punch, you would have thought I was trying so smuggle an Uzi
onboard. (What did they think I was gonna do? Put rhinestones on
everyone's clothes so they died of tackiness?) Mind you, the tool had its
complete packaging and instructions; it was obvious what it was for––and
equally obvious that it is not a weapon. In the ensuing pat–down, they
found a tiny swiss army knife that I'd forgotten was in my purse. I'd flown
at least three times with the knife before anyone found it.

LOL! Thanks for my Tuesday morning laugh.
Perhaps they thought you wanted to embellish the flight attendants

flashes of light....then you could steal a handful of pretzel packets
and a couple of small bottles of liquor!!!

You put it in your carryon? What were you thinking? Obviously it was a
weapon disguised as a bedazzler and you were a terrorist on your flight
from DC to NY. On one of my last airplane trips I forgot to take my
tiny scissors out of my knitting bag. The lady screamed scissors
several times to alert the entire airport staff. I told her quietly to
keep and enjoy them. Of course, a week later they were no longer banned
from carryons. With your bedazzler and my scissors we could terrorize
entire nations.

Small *and* virtually useless! I had a pair that literally had 1/2" blades.
They were only good for snipping a dangling thread. Shortly after 9/11, I
tried to smuggle them (snicker) onto a plane. Within seconds, there were
SIX security guards surrounding me.
(Audrey, I usually check my bags but this had been an overnight trip. I was
still planning to check the bag because of the bedazzler tool but my cab
never showed up. It was a huge race to the airport and there wasn't time to
check the bag. I'm just glad that I hadn't tried to bring any of the sewing
needles I'd found at Mom's house. They were in the original packages, very
vintage–y artwork on the packages; I wanted to take them but did *not* want
to surrender them at the gate.)

At least you weren't arrested. That might have happened two years ago.
One of my best OT tips on alt.fashion was just after 9/11 from Jodi, the
physics student at Stanford. One of her professors shared with her that
the sharp cutting edge inside a tube of dental floss was excellent for
cutting threads.
