introducing myself

myw...@gmail.com
hi everyone! I've been lurking here off and on for a couple years now,
but wanted to finally introduce myself...
My name's andrew and i'm 23 years old and live in Bellevue, WA. I just
finished school at the University of Washington and got a job where I
can finally afford to shop. Like a typical guy, I'm pretty lazy when it
comes to fashion and shopping but I pretend to at least know / keep up
with the latest stuff.
My girlfriend also forces me to go shopping pretty frequently, haha.
So that's me... if you have questions, feel free to ask!
I sometimes build websites in my spare time. I am thinking about doing
a fashion website where people can share ideas and follow trends... is
that interesting to you guys?
Any other thoughts on fashion sites you'd like to see but that don't
exist?

Hmmmmmm, I pretty much thought that's what this site does "people can
share ideas and follow trends."
Have I been asleep?

That's ok. You know we love you any way :)
P.S. The only problem with this site is very few men post but if you
ask questions, you'll get replies.

Hmm... interesting. How are you guys posting on here? I'm just using
Google Groups, are you guys doing something different?
Anyway, the idea I've been thinking about is a site where people can
take pictures of things they like like particular favorite outfits,
cute items, magazine pictures, etc. Then you could post the pictures on
the site, and get comments from your friends. On the flip side, you
could go there and see trends for your friends and what REAL people are
wearing.
I've been thinking about this for only a week now, and in general I'm
just thinking about something that'd be fun to build. So I'm honestly
open about almost anything, if you think it's useful for people who are
into style and fashion.
Any comments on that??
PS. I've been talking with girls about shopping and reading women's
magazines for the first time in my life, I will write you guys about
some amazing differences between men and women there :)

Pictures can be posted here for anyone to comment on and see what
others are wearing.

I don't know about the others, but I definitely know the difference in
men and women shopping so quoting from a magazine won't interest me. I
can't speak for everyone else, but they might be interested in these
'differences.'

actually, it's better not to post pictures to a text–only group.
it's better to post a LINK to a picture.

Correct!! And actually that's what I meant, but it sure didn't like
it, did it? Heavens, don't post an actual picture, link(s) only
please!

Google Groups is just one interface to Usenet. This here alt.fashion is
what's called a "newsgroup." Usenet predates the web, and it's possible
to access newsgroups without the web if your ISP supports it. It was
even around quite a number of years before AOL got a portal to it. Can
you even believe there was a time when spam on Usenet was unheard of? I
remember the first commercial spam ever. People were shocked... shocked!
at the blatant misuse! Trivia: anyone else know when and what that spam
was?
