OT: My daughter returned from Ecuador

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
She was there for ten days visiting a friend in the Peace Corps. She
bought three pounds of wool for $2.50 a pound. The wool is spun and
hand dyed by the Ecuadorian women and just beautiful; there's rainbow
yarn for her sister, yarn in shades of blue for her, and yarn for me
that begins as yellow and gradually turns into a dark green. She bought
beautiful gourds, two look like toucans and the other one is intricately
carved with a scene of a village in the Andes. She also bought
embroidered purses and coin purses and other crafts.
OT: The showers are called suicide showers because they are heated by
electricity. You can get shocked. One 36 year old woman had never
taken a hot shower. The village where her friend lives is a 30 minute
walk from where she lives but a three hour each way bus ride to Cuenca
where there is a large supermarket; otherwise, she buys food at a tiny
village store.

Carol
One pound of wool is enormous. We wound the girls' wool at the yarn
shop on Saturday but mine had more tangles so I am going to try to work
on it at home and then take it there Thursday evening. The device for
winding wool into balls is really nice. Before Christmas I bought a
book with 52 afghan patterns so I think an initial project would be an
afghan and possibly a pillow cover. This wool might be too scratchy to
wear as a sweater but I will also ask the knitting experts Thursday
evening. There are people at the shop who spin and dye their own wool.
I'll let you know next week.
