Possible Proenza Schouler/Target Stores Deal

"girlyfied" <girlyf...@gmail.com>
According to Wednesday's WWD, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of
Proenza Shouler have been in talks with Target to possibly carry a line in
Target stores. Nothing is definite, but it is possible the pair will design
a collection for Target's "Go International" campaign, which launches next
month. Luellla Bartley will be one of the first designers showcased when
"Go" launches.
While we in the south continue to wait for H&M, at least we have Target. :)

I hope regular Target shoppers will post as soon as they spot these
items because the "hot" stuff sells quickly. When you are still in your
sweats and need heavy outerwear to go outside, the stores are beginning
to bring in their spring items. There are very pretty plus size
lightweight coats at Wal–Mart in a variety of colors. When I was buying
sewing notions I noticed there were several racks filled with spring
items. Target begins very early too.

There was a recent article (NYTimes? NYMagazine? can't recall) about
how Target is feeling the effects of Wal–Mart's new upscale fashion
line breathing down their necks. The addition of Proenza Shouler and
Luella Bartley, along with Isaac and also Cynthia Rowley, is an attempt
to up the ante.
Since I won't patronize Wal–Mart, I'm very happy that Target is taking
steps to one–up them.

Is the George line the upscale line that Wal–Mart is promoting? I was
underwhelmed when I went. It had been about 2+ years since I've stepped
foot in a Wal–Mart store, and decided to go to check it out. What a mess, I
couldn't find what I was looking for in various departments, and I left
without purchasing a thing. I didn't even check out the cosmetics <gasp>.

Since I work from home I buy a lot of clothes at Target. I am
impressed with the clothing I have purchased. It has lasted me a long
time.
I will not go to a Wal Mart because my experience there have been
unpleasant. I do not need to rehash the same old Wal Mart rants.

Maybe I'm just not digging deep enough, but clothes at Target and Wal
Mart are just 'throw away' items. I don't shop in upscale shops, but
my money is too hard earned to buy the stuff that lasts *hopefully* for
one season. Both stores are great for toiletries and some houseware
stuff and the occasional makeup purchase, but never clothes. Oh, I did
buy some Xhilaration and Cherokee thermal sleep pants last year, but
that's been my only clothing purchase there. The Xhilaration brand is
much better than the Cherokee with my limited experience shopping for
wearables at this store.
Perhaps I need to look closer??

I bought two Cherokee cardigans last spring, white and apple green.
They are both really nice and I will wear them this year. Sometimes
I'll buy shirts at Target but I don't wear them often enough to justify
buying them. I don't know that you need to look closer but that you
might be the type of shopper who buys carefully selected items to be a
part of your wardrobe. You may pay more but you probably look for sales.
My girls are 22 (happy birthday today baby ) and 23 and both are full
time students with part time jobs. They are Wal–Mart and Target
shoppers. The older one buys underwear and socks at Target and she
looks at the IM. Both buy camisoles with shelf bras at Wal–Mart and
occasionally find other iems they like.

I'm not interested in (or impressed by) $100 jeans, so I have a bunch
of basics (tee–shirts, shorts, jeans and other casual pants, workout
clothes) from discount stores like Target, WalMart, K–Mart. For the
most part they've stood up to weekly wear and washing. Same thing for
some knock–off Merrell suede mocs I bought for traipsing around
campgrounds (now starting their 3rd year of regular wear).
But why the assumption that clothes from WalMart are ipso facto
crappily made?

I've bought some pretty decent underwear there (Target) that is really comfy
and I feel pretty good for what I pay for. I've bought a few Nick & Nora
PJs that are great. I did buy a stretchy v neck Mossimo shirt that I really
don't like, but found a jacket that is *great* and nicely made. I've gotten
two pairs of sunglasses, gloves (and promptly lost one) and a great scarf.
As for Walmart, call me superficial, but it is so messy there, that I don't
find it a pleasure to shop. Therefore I probably won't buy anything.
"itsjoannotjoann" <itsjoannotjo...@webtv.net>
Come to think of it, I have bought some reeeeeally cute sandals at
Wally World the last 2 or 3 years that have held up remarkably well.
I've also bought some Hanes cotton panties at one of the big mart type
stores that were a bargain, only problem is I can't stand cotton
undies. Oh, and I did buy some Playtex bras at Wally's that were also
sold in the Hanes L'eggs outlet stores.
Hmmmmm, maybe I've done more shopping there than I've imagined!

Our Wal–Mart stores are actually very nicely maintained.
My major complaint is they're stacked too high and you see too much of
the internal building construction.
Wal–mart is relatively new to our valley. I think the first
super store is no more than 10 years old.
That's because they propagate in concentric circles from Bentonville,
Arkansas.
They had a very nice store when I lived in Alabama in 1982. Better
than what KMart and Woolco had at the time.
I don't expect a lot from inexpensive clothing but as jjjjjulie pointed
out, sometimes you can really find great garments. Also, sometimes my
higher end stuff (do you hear me Anthropologie?) isn't worth the price
I pay .

As part of my job (employment consultant helping people with disabilities
get jobs), I've done the Wal–Mart orientation and training numerous times.
There's actually a term for stacking the stuff high on the shelves and they
do it to give the impression that the store is huge and that they carry tons
of items. In fact, new employees have to learn several of their marketing
strategies, even if they aren't working in a department doing marketing per
se. I've only had people hired as grocery stockers and maintenance
(basically, janitorial) but I've helped them learn many areas where they'll
never set foot in once they're actually on the floor.

I totally agree about those high shelves. It frustrates me because I
can't find the departments easily. We go for yarn and sewing supplies
that are usually in a corner but they are blocked by all of the other
shelves and merchandise so unless there is someone to ask, it can take a
while to find what I need. Even the employees have a hard time finding
merchandise. I wanted computer paper for holiday letters and it took
three employees to determine where I could find it. It wasn't with
stationery and not directly with holiday merchandise but in a separate
display.

Target doesn't always carry as "big" of clothes (size wise, I am talking) as
Walmart. I stocked up on sale basic black & white v neck t shirts at
Walmart size 30/32 which I have never seen clothes that "big" at Target b4.
Now I have lost a substantial amount of weight so I can wear some of the
Target plus sized stuff, but our 2 Target stores here in MN are severely
lacking in the plus sized dept. They don't have a lot of things like larger
sized Hanes or JMS panties as well. That is really my only Target
complaint. I think that our Targets in MN here are very clean for the most
part, their accessories, makeup selection, etc rivals Walmart in price,
quality, and availability now that they brought back NYC Cosmetics (they had
d/c'ed cheaper lines such as NYC Cosmetics) and their big jewelry dept/purse
dept is wonderful as well. I only go to Walmart infrequently to stock up on
"basics" like white t shirts, panties in packages, and that sort of thing.
Not a fan of Walmart (not for political reasons, I couldn't care less
really, call me irresponsible if you will...) but because the people there
are all really ready to run you over with their carts, customers act rude &
inconsiderate, parking sucks (I have a handicapped permit, still cannot find
good parking!!), no one puts their carts into the corrals when they are done
shopping, and so on. I really am a big Walgreens fan for toiletries anyways
so I go there for that stuff coz I need to get my prescriptions there. And
the only thing I don't like about Walgreens is no access to public bathrooms
that I know of....which is weird coz it's a pharmacy and what if you have
uncontrollable nausea or diarrhea??

Can you find merchandise in your size on line? My mil wore a plus size
18–20 before her illness and I found that all the stores had limited
stock in her size. I had a hard time shopping for her unless I went
early in the season. Right now you need to begin looking at Target for
spring/summer clothes as they put them out because there is probably a
limited amount in each collection.

Our Target does not have anything even remotely near "Summer" type of
collections right now, Audrey!! This is Minnesota and it's only going to
get colder here...it will snow quite a few more times before they drag out
the sandals and bikini's up here. Maybe in Kentucky, though...And 18–20 is
not a super–huge plus size. They have plenty of 1X and sometimes 2X stuff...@
Target in person all of the time. It's the 3X 26/28 that I have a hard time
getting ahold of. I can even squeeze into 22/24 once in awhile now that I
have lost some weight, but not always. I refuse to buy online coz I want to
see what the item looks like in person, I am afraid of identity theft (I
know, very irrational fear most likely, right?!), and MN does not have sales
tax on clothes so I don't know how that works when I am a KY resident. Plus
a lot of places do not like to ship somewhere that is not your billing
address I have found out the hard way!! And I may use a bank in another
state, but want it shipped to Minnesota. Now do you see why I get
frustrated?? But I don't have any of those probs with Walmart, walking into
the store in person, other than a general distaste for the other shoppers
and most fashions there in my size anyways. I really prefer Marshall
Field's esp their FIELD GEAR house line is sooo wonderful!! And it always
goes on sale which is great. Sorry, Audrey, but thank you for thinking of
me and my quandry!!
––Kristin
PS: I have really good luck...@ Cato's though in Kentucky for plus size
stuff!!
