Shiny mineral makeup

"Smokey" <SmokeyinNewEngl...@yahooey.com>
I'm surprised to read the posts about mineral makeup leaving a shine. I've
used BE and JI and, if anything, have a problem with it looking too powdery
and dry. My skin is not oily, but I wouldn't have thought it was dry enough
to make this much of a difference. Does anyone else have this issue with a
powdery look?

Smokey,
I have both problems with it. The formulation itself has something shiny in
it (mica?) that manifests itself after I spread it on. It reflects light on
me. I also experience the "dry skin" look with it. I have normal skin and
moisturize well before applying but I still find that it accentuates my
wrinkles and leaves my skin looking dryer than I would like.

This is why I don't use the BE foundation. I only use a little mineral
veil when I need it. On the other hand I love the blushes and eye
shadows. Also, with BE foundation I think it's a good idea to use
their prep for the face before applying the foundation. I think it
keeps it from being too powdery looking.

try colorescience or La Bella Donna or Youngblood (which has a lot of new
stuff in their line)
all of these will do what you want but not leave you looking dry
you might want to check out the cream 2 powder colorescience stuff

Mica is a group of minerals that form in thin, flat layers, like
little flakes, so they have a reflective surface. BE has teensy little
bits of it, crushed to within an inch of its life, but that's what
makes it look shiny or glowy.

I have been afraid to try BE because of some of the posts about
excessive shine. I'd like to try a mineral foundation but, as I've
posted before, I thought that even CG TruBlend Powder foundation
looked really dry on my skin.
Is it worth trying a sample when I go to Sephora in a week or so, I
wonder?

I actually like that powdery look...but this is from someone who had an oil
slick face since the age of fourteen. Only since getting pregnant did the
oil production slow down. I must say that since using BE some of the zits
on my face have dried up and my complexion is clearer. The only gripe at
this point, is that I don't think it is pigmented heavily enough to cover
the hyperpigmentation marks from old acne. I will probably look for another
brand after I am through with BE.
Is anyone else getting the sense that BE is the "gateway drug" for mineral
foundations?

I do with BE, but not with JI or LBD. I have to use a heavy moisturizer and
exfoliate before I can use BE without problems. I use JI and LBD pressed
minerals, so that might be why they work better for me. The pressed minerals
tend to be matte yet sheer, so it's never shiny or powdery.

It can't hurt. You may love it.
Thanks KC for the info on the particles in BE. I thought so.
OTOH, the issues with BE would not keep me from EVER trying it again – it's
just not my preferred product. If I had not given it away to BF (who has
oily skin and loves it), I would probably have finished using the product
during our raging summers when the use of a powder is more logical.
FTR I am considering trying another product on Stevie's recommendation –
Youngblood. I did a little research into their products yesterday after she
reminded me of them. I'll not buy soon though as I'm currently working 3
different containers of foundation.
