I only get a few new messages each day – that doesn't seem right. What can
I change in accounts/options/etc.. to make my newsgroups more up to date?

That isn't right. I saw 37 from about 2 PM until 11 PM.
What can I change in accounts/options/etc.. to make my newsgroups
more up to date?
Complain to the people that are running your newsgroup server that it more up to date?
