Galmour Beauty Tip of the Day

"Salon de Maria" <salondema...@yahoo.com>
I was browsing through a Sept '05 issue of Glamour and came across a
tip I'd like to share:
"To make lipstick last, mix it with a lip pencil on your hand before
you brush it on your lips"
Has anybody tried this and does it work?

There are several ways to make lipstick last...that's just one of them
and it does work. You can also put a minute amount of foundation on
your lips right before you apply your make–up. There are several
cosmetic companies that make lip primers and Laura Geller is one. It
comes in a little tub with one side for lips and the other for
undereyes. The primer works great by the way, but a little foundation
works just as well if you don't want to spend the extra bucks on a
primer.

La Prairie has a pricey but excellent primer. My method of making
lipstick last is to layer a few shades mixing lipsticks and glosses.

I always liked Elizabeth Arden Lip–Fix Cream. I always use a lip brush
to apply lip color. It seems to look neater and last longer.

I've found the applying foundation as primer for lipstick automatically
changes the color of the lipstick, and generally not for the better.
I've never found a way to make this technique work.
OTOH, there's an elaborate procedure that can help lip color stay put
longer (outside of using one of the longlasting lip products):
(1) Line and fill in lips with lip pencil.
(2) Apply lip color carefully, preferably using lip brush.
(3) Blot gently but firmly (tissue between lips, press lips together).
(4) Separate tissue and gently place one "ply" over lips.
(5) Using a thick powder puff, press loose powder onto lips *through*
the tissue.
(6) Apply lip color again.
No, it won't last forever but definitely longer than just one coat of
lipstick alone.

And unashamedly following my own post: you can repeat the above steps
more than once if you like. The point is to "set" each coat of
lipstick, which helps it to last longer.
HTH.

I've gotten to the point myself, where I've done away with lipstick
(almost) altogether. Everything has to be re–applied at some point
anyway. Now I just wear a sheer gloss when I'm doing nothing special
(Clinique glosses are my favorite) and one with more pigment when I'm
going out for something more special. My favorite is actually from a
private label company, but Ulta actually has some nice glosses that are
from their own make–up line. Cheap enough to get a few tubes and they
are always running specials on these. My favorite plump gloss is by
The Balm and is called Plump your Pucker, which can be purchased at
HSN. As good a far cheaper than the plump glosses by Freeze 24.
