Upper Eyelid (underneath) is peeling

lborch...@adelphia.net
I have been having the problem where one eye for no reason will close
shut overnight. When cleaning with a hot rag it feels like something is
in it. I looked at the underside of my upper eyelid and a small film of
skin was peeling off.
Any ideas????

Make an appointment with an opthamologist. Eyes don't close for no
reason.

IMMEDIATELY! If there's one thing to never fool around with, it's your
eyes. Please, please, please call a good ophthalmologist (eye doctor,
not optician or optometrist) today and tell them it's an emergency.

Get thee straight to an opthamologist. It sounds like an infection but
IANAD.

I'm probably the AF poster child for hypersensitive eyes so I'm going
to respond.
I've fought itchy eyes, lost eyelashes, discharge, flakiness my entire
life and in my case blepharitis – alternately known as blepharosis –
has been the cause. It's a nasty, shitty (pardon my french) condition
because it's chronic and you MUST continuously and indefinitely treat
it to keep it from making you miserable. The flip side, it is highly
unlikely it will affect your eyesight. I'm no doc but I'm guessing
this is part of why your eyelids are peeling and irritated. PLEASE go,
as others have suggested to your opthomologist ASAP. Use whatever
medicine you're prescribed exactly as directed and use it up, don't
stop if you seem to be getting better. You should probably also ask
your eye doc about Occu Scrub, a product that's used to clean the
eyelids and lashes 2 times/day. You may also be advised to get an eye
cup and rinse your eyes with it, or swab your eyelids with baby shampoo
to clean them. Avoid eye makeup of any kind, even if it says it's
hypoallergenic, especially eyeshadows with brown pigment, for some
reason this dye is really irritating to sensitive eyes. Avoid mascara
because even though it's a basic pick me up, it's perhaps the biggest
culprit at making itchy irritated eyelids and lashes worse. I'd avoid
eye creams too.

HTH, my posts are also archived, thus googleable on this subject. Also,
drop me an email if you need more info. I've had to deal with it since
I was a wee lass.

I have bad seasonal allergies that were worse when I was a kid, and my
eyes used to do that every night from mid August to October for years.
Every morning I had to feel my way to the sink to "unglue" my eyes. It
was mostly because our house didn't have central air and our windows
were always open (letting in pollen!) I am an air conditioning lover
now, so it doesn't happen anymore. Since you are only having a problem
with one eye, it probably isn't an allergy, but if you suffer from
allergies, it could be related.
It is more likely, in the case of a single eye, to be an infection from
old make–up or something similar. You can partly tell the difference
based on what color the crust gluing your eyes shut is. Clear is more
likely to be allergies while yellowish is more likely an infection.
Either way, if you aren't used to it, it is best to have it checked by a
doctor.
In the meantime, when cleaning your eyes be very careful, use a clean
cloth every time to avoid new bacterias, etc. Pharmacies have eye
washes, but last time I had a minor irritation from make up, the eyewash
stung worse =(
