Congratulations! I wish you centuries of blissand billions of cofarbucks!
Thanks for the descriptions of everything. It sounds completely wonderful.
The only question: what color Uggs?
Very best wishes,
cofarb
We got married the day after christmas. A small, private affair with
just the kids and uncle and aunt. DF is now my DH forever after!
The fashion report:
Yes, the girls and I really did wear Uggs under our dresses! The
wedding was held outside at a bridge near our house and we had to make
it down an icy muddy path to get there. So the Uggs were practical! We
switched afterwards into less practical shoes!
DD11 wore a midcalf red satin gown with empire waist, cap sleeves and
brocade torso. DD13 also wore red satin, but her dress was a bit more
sophisticated for a junior: strapless dress with Aline skirt hitting
below the knee. Came with a red satin shawl. Both dresses found on
ebay. (Yeah ebay!!). DD11 wore a crystal necklace and DD13 wore her
pearls (both xmas gifts).
The groom wore his formal kilt, the family tartan. Looks sorta like
this very dashing!

The bride (me!) wore a dress I found for major cofarb bucks during a
Filene's oneday sale!!! Someone had apparently worn it and returned
it. It was retagged, rumpled, had some makeup on it, and smelled like
perfume. I was just about to give up my search when I saw it hanging on
the rack in the changing room, looking forlorn. But it fit me
perfectly, and it was just what I was looking for, so I haggled the
price down to peanuts. Dry cleaning restored it to like new.
The dress is just like this, except in champagne (I didn't want white):

Except that it came with a vintagelooking brooch on the hip. Here are
the shoes I changed into, once I no longer needed the Uggs:

I also wore a white fur capelet because it was a bit chilly (but way
better than it has been: upper 40s with light misty rain). Hair parted
on side and pulled back, with chandelier earrings from BR. Makeup
simple (foundation, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick) and all from the
drugstore (except the eyeliner it's MAC powder applied with eyeliner
brush). I found this Almay mascara that's supposed to bring out the
green in my eyes. It is a dark brown, with just a *hint* of green in
it. Wow, it really works.
For bag, I used the wedding purse DH bought for me the xmas after we
got engaged two years ago. It's simple white satin clutch with simple,
delicate crystal beading in a thin band along the edge where it snaps
closed.
And the rings! He chose a simple whitegold band with milgrain
detailing. I went with something like this:

Never thought I'd go with an insert or wrap, but after looking at
hundreds and hundreds of bands online and in the store, this was my
favorite, especially since it meant I didn't need to reset my
engagement ring, which is a simple solataire in what the jeweler told
me is a "classic" Tiffany setting. I was getting frustrated because
every band I saw would require me to reset to higher prongs, which I
didn't want to do, and this jeweler explained that the lower prongs are
the classic setting??? At any rate, the minute I tried this insert on
with my ring, I knew it was it!!
For something old *and* borrowed, I wore a ring of my mother's that
she'd just given to DD11 for xmas this year.
For something blue, my bouquet had a touch of blue hydrangea along with
white roses, some bluishwhite winter berries (not sure what it's
called, but it's pretty), and pine needles (to keep with the winter
theme). Girls' bouquets were all in red dark red tea roses, red
berries, and pine needle filler. We had the bouquets made up in advance
at Whole Foods for around $100 total a frugal tip if anyone's
interested. Can't believe what they charge at the florists!! They
worked with us to create just the perfect bouquets.
