Audrey,
I believe there's a yoga video specifically for back problems
possibly produced by Gaiam, a company that makes a lot of them. Chairs,
blocks, and straps are used to support poses, if I'm remembering
correctly. This would be an older tape I don't know if you could
still get it at all.
At collagevideo.com, you can watch short clips of exercise tapes/dvds.
There's also company recommendations I've found these suggestions
helpful as I think the employees actually do the videos. I started
using tapes and now dvds many years ago when my husband and I decided
that a more rural lifestyle was for us. I've ordered from Collage for
years and have always been happy with the service. My personal favorite
yoga tape features someone named Sara Ivanhoe, but I'm definitely not
experienced enough with other instructors. More yoga is my personal
fitness resolution for 2006, so I'm eager to hear what others might
think!
The other place you might check is yogajournal.com, which I think is
the website for Yoga Journal magazine. They do regular reviews and
there's a "beginners" section which has been very helpful for me. I've
worked out for years but stick to beginning moves when I'm doing yoga
as my flexibility and coordination aren't great.
I'm glad your back is better and hope you find a tape that works for
you!
Happy New Year,
Alicia U.

I was plagued by terrible sciatica for the past two months. Now my back
hurts only late at night. My internist suggested that I do yoga
stretches. I took hatha yoga classes last year but by March I had too
many conflicts with the class times. The bottom line is I still hate
organized instruction but think I would do a dvd or video at home. I am
going to look at Target today but know these products vary greatly.
