Is Anyone Going Shopping Today?

wac...@AOL.com
I was just wondering if anyone is going shopping today and, if so,
where? What kind of deals do you hope to get? Happy Shopping!

Actually I have to. My sister locked herself in our one bathroom yesterday.
The doorknob broke off (no, I haven't got a clue as to how/why it happened)
and we had a bit of a challenge getting her out. It was a mix of mad
hysteria and uncontrollable laughter at the time :–)

Cheers!

Oh my! That will make for some holiday memories!
I have to buy dd (13 months) her first pair of shoes. She's been walking
steady for two weeks now so I guess it is time.
I do plan to look for some holiday themed stuff. I tend to get gift wrap,
cards, decorations, etc. for the next year.

I need to do a couple of returns, but I think I'll wait until later in
the week when (hopefully) the return lines aren't so long.

I think I may do a stop in Kohl's just for a look–see. A few weeks

more. Hoping they are still at a sale price.

I did! My DD (18 yrs) and I always go shopping the day after Christmas. We
got to Del Amo Mall (Torrance, CA) a little after 6 am. Got great deals on
1928 jewelry 60% off and 50% off Hickory Farms beef stick (for New Years).
Picked up some make–up at MAC (not on sale but DD needed some eye shadows).
As far as the clothes go we didn't find much. But we did have fun and are so
glad to be at home DD is taking a nap and I'm thinking about one too! Hope
everyone had a nice Christmas and Hanukkah yesterday.

I did.
I went to a local stationers, and stocked up on some holiday gift tags,
boxes, wrapping paper and fill–in invitation for next year.
I do custom–printed holiday cards, so I don't buy those.
Next, it was to a local garden shop, where I bought nothing, but my
shopping companion bought a few very pretty and off–beat tree
ornaments.
Next, it was off to Target, where I bought a few necessities (some
sippy cups – 21 months –– still uses them on occasion, socks...) and
also a couple of holiday decor items, and a few gift wrap things, and
one strand of gold ball garland.
Total haul appeared more impressive than it was.
Oh, I also bought a couple of Choxie items to give as gifts over the
next week or so.

I went and regret it. I was barely moving in the mall parking lot for
around 30 minutes going in and it took even longer to leave. It was
worse than it was on Black Friday or Festivus Eve. I'm cranky because
not only was shopping torture but there have been three water main
breaks in my neighborhood over the last few days and I had no water all
day and night on Saturday, for most of the day yesterday and all day
today. Not a damned trickle and I'm leaving town tomorrow, having
showered only once since Friday morning (at a friend's place). I have
to go drive somewhere every time I have to use the bathroom and I'm
angrier than I've been in at least a few years. I hate not showering in
the morning. I'm going to the gym tomorrow for the sole purpose of
showering before I hit the road! I don't want my father to see me all
stinky and with frizzy, dirty hair because he'll just worry a lot,
figuring I'm going insane or something (I'm fastidious about personal
hygiene). Merry Effin' Festivus to Me.
Anyway, I went to Nordstrom and purchased:
fuschia cashmere shawl/wrap
cute winter scarf– powder blue polka dots on lavender with large, round
plastic "crystals" in purple, navy and lavender sewn onto both ends
Stopped at Marshalls to stock up on workout pants and tees for the gym
Also went for an oil change and to CVS to get mass quantities of baby
wipes so I can at least give myself pseudo–sponge baths!

Good news since my last post. I have no idea if the water main is almost
fixed yet but we've now got JUST ENOUGH water pressure to flush the
toilet if we wait about 5 minutes between flushes. This means I don't

We were at the mall when it opened, trying to get it over with. We
exchanged a couple of sizes and returned a beautiful jewelry box at
Bombay Company, because it wasn't quite right for my stuff.
DH bought me a vanity and matching stool, because I've been looking
for one for years. What he forgot was that we are building a new house
and I made the bathroom longer for the sole purpose of putting a
vanity between the sinks, so I no longer need a separate one. I felt
so bad, because it was so pretty, and he had worked so hard to find
it.
Went to Michael's craft store to buy some storage containers and some
more of the beautiful red beaded garland we bought for the tree.

Del Amo was my hangout back in the 70s. I spent many, many dollars
there.
This morning I had a great time hitting sales at Rite Aid and Longs drug
stores. All of the gift sets are half price so I bought a healing
garden white tea set for the youngest daughter. It cost $3.50. I
bought a Sally Hansen nail glam salon set for the darling young girls
who are DH's relatives. It has 3 polishes, 2 nail treatments and 2
manicure tools and cost $2.50. For his cousins I bought three "in 2 spa"
sets that contain foot scrub, foot cooler and foot lotion. Those sets
were also $2.50 each and I'll mail them with candy for Valentine's Day.
I also bought pretty Hallmark plaid paper 50% off.

a black sleeveless shell with pearl and bead trim
Monroe black slip on shoes (good for work and traveling, especially to

I think valet parking is the only way to go at SCP and I'm there no more
than once or twice a year.
***
Had I known it was only 6 bucks –– I would not be messing around during the
holidays but park there. Typically though I am there on off peak hours and
never have much of a parking issue. till yesterday. UGH
Do you think Paula Dorf and Sue Devitt will be available at all within a
year?
*** Paula Dorf is at Macys (I THINK . it was the last time I was there)
the Sue Devitt is at Sephora (LOVE LOVE Love that line.. if you knew how
many things of hers I have––primer, several eye intensifiers–– (the perfect
smoky eye pencils) , palettes of cream shadow/blushes.. yummy!, pressed
bronzer, liquid gold coast bronzer, shadows. way too much. the line has a
lot going for it.. her glosses are nice too. they can be neutral or go bold)
It took a long time for me to convince myself that the PD eye
primer was the absolute best to keep shadow lasting all day long and I
hate to lose it. My oldest one is feeling tacky so I don't think hoarding
this product will work in the long run. I may get two extra but it is
really getting hard to find.
*** it's available at beauty.com right now and is still at bergdorf and is
online at sephora.com. WHY they took it out of SCP?? don't know.. don't know
why Anna Sui is no longer there either
You are all so brave to fight the mob at SCP. I'm sure you all (other
than the kid who is young and tough) need to relax and put up your feet.
*** did last night. I got home and was really glad to not have to go
anywhere.. FD drove and the weather was great up at SCP and even at the
fwy.. as soon as we got close to home, it's been overcast ever since..
My hot tip for a very decent inexpensive alcoholic beverage is Christian
Brothers Amber Cream. CB has been making decent brandy in Reedley (down
the road from moi) for years and a bottle is just $5.99 at Bev Mo. Serve
it chilled and use it the same way you'll use the Starbucks liquor.
*** oh now.. that's a great idea.. hmm anyone for ice cream sodas with this
stuff? Soda water, light ice cream vanilla and chocolate and a splash of
this would be yummy
btw.. thanks for the nice comment!

Audrey
"Stevie" <privilegemagaz...@charter.net>
well it was an idea Fashiondish had –– she had never been to a postXmas
holiday sale (can you believe that one?) so we decided to go.. took the kid
and got BFF Sheri to meet us there (we needed to give her birthday and Xmas
gifts too)
we wound up taking the back road in to South Coast Plaza ––the biggest $ per
sq foot mall in the country.. and it 's got all the great cool and expensive
stores.
We got to the mall just after 11 and the line INTO the mall wasn't more than
a good city block long.. but it was the sight of the parking that was
horrendous.. as in NONE or very little.
So we drove about 15 minutes to see anything and wound up valet–ing the
car –– at 6 bucks.. and splitting the cost, it was worth saving the hassle
of finding a parking spot.
So off we go with stuff to return/exchange at Sephora (and nothing else..
thankfully)
We were meeting Sheri at Sephora but she was trying to get in off the front
of mall *huge mistake*.. (always go in off the back. more/easier parking!!)
so after scouring through Sephora (and lines were very manageable there )
for about 45 mins (and sending the kid off for cookie run) we got stuff
exchanged and the requisite gift card. My dad never knows what to buy so he
just buys *anything* and it's funny because it's stuff I have to return..
and there's some stuff that the store which got moved from by the carousel
to down by Rob May (soon to be bloomingdales) – with a much improved look
and more space and more line–– but caution.. NO more anna sui or paula dorf
at all there. BUMMER since I had some AS to exchange! grrrr. wanted to buy a
couple PD things (colored mascara)
anyway, the kid got a few things (chewed up her GC faster than greased
lightning) and then I sprung for a few more for her, plus a red currant lip
marker, guerlain rouge passion #25 kiss kiss metallic gloss and something
else. I forget..
anyway.. I was jonesing to buy more stuff but they were out of so much.
Looked longingly at Smashbox, Sue Devitt , Longo and NARs but how much stuff
do I really need? was thinking of more foundation but yesterday was not the
day to check that out.
we were all starving by then and headed back down the mall to the wolfgang
puck cafe.. which Sheri had said wasn't so busy> we stopped at Rampage where
the kid wanted to buy things but at 40–50 for a tee (no thanks), I passed on
that one. we stopped at Brooks Bros where the sale was 40% off the cashmere
and an EXTRA 15% off anything if purchased before 1 PM.. the line was 50+
people deep.. truly!! It was horrific.
so off we went back down the mall, dodging and weaving and looking at Chloe,
Celine, La Perla, and other brands..
turn left in front of Macys, turn right just past Tourneau and then out the
door to the cafe.. which was filling up but slowly .. but the reason was
because they were short staffed.. so the 15 minute wait was actually 30
mins. We finally got a table (inside!! thank you!!) and sat down and it
took 30 mins for us to get the food .. and my order was forgotten and the
kid's order was incorrect but everything corrected quickly.. but we did have
2 orders of foccacia.. which was fab but by the time the food arrived (at 30
mins) we weren't as hungry. I packed up my salad.. ate tortilla soup (ehhh
mes a mes) , loved FD's pasta and Sheri's spinach salad.. and boxed the
kid's burger/fries, we were off to do more shopping
However we did open some presents!
the kid got a snowman stuff figure with a pocket for a sugarplum bath
bomb( yum.. the dog went after the figure at home. he tried to snag it off
the dining room table)
I got a bottle of Starbucks liquere which is lovely. we contemplated the
different things to do with it: over ice cream, made into an ice cream soda
(yum) and also how I could turn it into a martini..
FD got a great tin of L'Occitane from Sheri.. which was lovely! she was
thrilled
Sheri got a cosmetics smorgasboard: mini glosses from the mini pink asst
that I split up.. (the one with the feathers) along with some mini (read
super deluxe gwp sample) of some skincare and fresh stuff and also 2
martini candles –– cosmo and also the raspberry tini candles.. and also a
magazine subscription.
we paid the bill and went off to Williams Sonoma where they went to buy
stuff and the kid and I went to Napoleon cosmetics where I had to do some
exchanges on some items that were more skincare based and I needed color. So
the kid got a shadow, a gloss and an eye pencil, I wound up with golden
sunset #29 and copper #30 shimmer shadows and long black mascara and
something else and still had a GC coming back to me.
that was cool.. mercier counter here I come (or $$ off that Vince sweater I
want)
so we went off to W–S to retrieve BFFs and found Sheri still at the
register but I was scoping out the key lime martini mix.. as well as the
meyer lemon and the vanilla.
and figuring out how to mix.. as well as the mojito which looked ideal.
anyway, we checked out, got in line for valet which was moving fairly
quickly (it was almost 3 by then) and got the car–– and that was a
hilarious scene since there were easily 50+ people waiting for their cars
and trying to navigate around a taxi that just would not move.
As we drove away (with hugs to Sheri who had to go find her car at Crystal
Court) we went back out the way we came in.. the 1 city block line to get in
at 11 was now almost 3 miles LONG .. going down 4 lights.. FOUR>. and it was
two lanes.
good grief–– we won't be doing this again.
we didn't hit any of the large stores. We didn't hit the dept stores
either.. though Saks wasn't all that busy.. but it's pretty small.
did have a great time.
Stevie
