My Christmas haul

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
The nicest gifts come from DH, the children and good friends.
DH is the absolute best...he bought me a beautiful pair of silver and
gold David Yurman earrings. The tiny sweet thoughts are so cool too,
lovely rose scented candles from Gumps even though he usually hates
candles, a green vase to hold rose buds also from Gumps, practical items
like really cool trivets from WS, the DeLonghi toasted oven to replace
the old GE and other neat things.
My son gave me four bottles of WS dishwashing soap in assorted scents.
The middle child made me a gorgeous delicate ribbon scarf in shades of
black, copper and white. She bought me a glass sea urchin at Gumps and
a super cool Rolling Stones' navy tote with those lips on the front.
The youngest child bought me super soft Karen Neuberger slipper socks
and gave me an IOU for a black sequin and fun fur scarf not yet
finished.
Our dear friends in Florence, Italy sent a lovely box from Santa Maria
Novella. She never shops there saying it is a store for Americans :) It
has a latte soap, wax soap dish with rose buds, two wax sachets for the
lingerie drawers also with rose buds, and a beautifully carved rose
candle.
The different gift this year is a book for my husband from a client. It
is the evangelicals' answer to Guns, Germs and Steel. No comment.

I had a quietly restrained Christmas this year.... I have nicer
memories of time spent with loved ones than amazing gifts exchanged.
But I think that's good for me in a way, since I'm appreciating things
that I might have glossed over in previous years.
My parents: Money, as I am keen to spend it on "services" once my hair
grows back and I get some brows and lashes.
brit husband: Tickets to see "Sunday in the Park with George" which
has received rave critical reviews here in London. Can't wait to see
it! Also got a lovely Christmas stocking at the foot of my bed filled
with chocolate coins, satsumas and reese's peanut butter cups, my
favorite American candy (can't get it over here), along with books on
making psychic connections and the newest Jan Fennell book "The Seven
Ages of Your Dog."
In Laws:
Extras DVD, Tori Amos's CD "The Bee Keeper", and a lovely new duvet
cover and pillow cases. Got several wonderful bath truffles/bombs for
the bath in rose scents. Lovely chocs from a Swiss chocolatier too...
Jinx the Dog
This was a swap for Laduree room spray but it certainly felt like a
Christmas present to me! I got Flush blush stick from Tarte, Cover
Girl Outlast foundation/primer, Clinique Butter shines in True Love and
Pink Goddess, Clinique body lotion and body wash, two big bottles of
Neutrogena cleanser for Sensitive Skin... Clinique Superfit
makeup––too many wonderful things to mention!
I was generously gifted with many fantastic things but the best bit of
all was being surrounded by the people I love. Sorry–– I know, I know,
cue in the corny music but it's true!
Oh, and by the way, still longing for the new Stila palette "Fairy Tale
Princess" (inspired by the English National Ballet)! Might have to nip
out and buy that...
Happy Christmas, everyone!

No apologies needed for the 'corn.' Glad you had a happy Christmas.
Thought of you the other day – ebay had ten (10) jars of Sig
A meltdown on one auction. I was sorely tempted.

The best gift of all was having my mom and stepdad with us. We moved across
the country this summer and it would have been a lonely Christmas if they
hadn't made the trip.
I did get good tangible items:
*2 dessert spoons and forks in my silver pattern – Tiffany Audubon
*a new silver chest to hold everything I was running out of room in my old
standard size
*shelves for the garage and stepdad working with DH to help organize
significant progress was made
*new Karen Neuberger pj's
*Snowman dessert plates, mugs and bowls from Williams Sonoma
*12 egg vases with feet – truly bizarre, but funny
*Yves Delorme 2005 Christmas tea towel
*pair of turquoise earrings
I got myself a small brown Hype Durango bag. The last purse I bought was
last year right after Christmas!

Spoilt, spoilt,spoilt I am!
From DH: Ti Sento crystal choker and earrings, a gorgeously fluffy soft
bathrobe in vanilla material that's feels like super thin fleece but much
more luxurious, The Crooners cd collection, and a really cool retro kitchen
scale.
From Son # 1, who's 11: scented candles and all sorts of bath treats from
what he calls the "healthy" store.
From Son # 2, who's 6: a beautiful Waterman pen with a malachite cover––– he
picked it out himself, his daddy was only along to pay for things.
But I gave as good as I got.
DH–––RenĂ© LaCroix watch, Jaime Oliver's "Jamie's Italy", a half–moon knife
for chopping herbs, a mortar and pestle.
Son # 1 ––– sudoku puzzles, Ralph Lauren shirt in bright red, a mini–stereo
set, a Colonists of Catan expansion set...
Son # 2 ––– Star Wars stuff, the cd of Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before
Christmas", bright red O'Neill hoodie, a Rocket Power toothbrush, lots of
little cute things...
and I gave both the boys a funky tea–set to share because they like drinking
tea when they get home from school.
Happy Christmas everybody!

Do your girls knit, Audrey? I'm a knitter, myself! :) I've been
wanting to attempt one of those ribbon scarves, maybe for spring.
They're so unique.

A nice haul indeed with mostly AF related things:
From Mom – Aurielle leatherware smooth red leather shoulderbag, zip top
with lots of pockets, silver ring trim on the straps, in an E/W
rectangle shape. I had asked for the caramel or the red and hoped for
the red. It was the last one in the store in that style and color.
Meant to be I guess :–).
Yes, it holds all my crappe. Perfectly.
Also from Mom, black faux fur Kenneth Cole hat. I'll get lots of use
from it this winter.
From DH – Opal stud earrings and 2 little lipglosses; one Reeses'
Peanut Butter cup flavored, one Hershey Kiss flavored. And they're
tasty.
From my sis – Estee EDT, actually an old favorite of mine I can
rediscover now, one of those yarn and ribbon scarves in various shades
of red and plum with chenille and plain yarns, and a candle, IIRC
Aromatique Citrus. Finally as a gag, Mom and I each got a pair of gaudy
earrings – mine were bright gold with huge rose colored rhinestones and
hers had clear rhinestones. The earrings came in little silk purses
with bead embellishments.
My sister gives good gift – DD got an assortment of very cute Baby Gap
clothes and DH got a red cashmere muffler. She had no idea he needed a
scarf desperately and none of the rest of us had bought him one.

Yes, we all began knitting a few years ago when I bought three copies of
Stitch & Bitch. The ribbon scarf is not that difficult. My 21 year old
gave me an IOU for a scarf that will be black fun fur and sequins. She
saw it on the cover of a Town & Country last year and the retail price
was $300. Obviously it was made from a finer wool but the one she made
herself in gray is fabulous and she always receives compliments on it.

Your sister did well giving him the red cashmere muffler. You must take
a photo of you and your mom wearing those gaudy earrings.
