Holiday shipping

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
You can't count on anything to arrive when it is supposed to unless you
are paying $$$ for services like overnight mail. I ordered three
fruitcakes from the Collin Street Bakery in November for Christmas
delivery and realized we hadn't received ours. I called this morning
and it was shipped on the 8th, still in transit and due to arrive today.
The cakes for North Dakota and Canada have already reached their
destinations. On the other hand a skirt my daughter ordered from J Crew
on Tuesday arrived yesterday.
Those of you who haven't heard from your secret santas, you just need to
be patient but it might be time for the santas to reveal their identity
to their santees via e mail to let them know they have not been
forgotten.

I got free overnight shipping from LL Bean!
I ordered some matching pajamas for the whole family (another task my
DH blew off – like the thank you notes!) on Wednesday. I wanted the
skating penguins from Hanna Anderson, but by the time I found out he
had airballed on the task, they were sold out. I am cutting him some
slack, he has a restaurant opening on Jan 14, and another mid–April.
The LL Bean ones went out yesterday and arrived today. I haven't
opened the bag yet, I just got the baby down for nap, so here goes!

A package of rental movies postmarked December 7 just arrived
yesterday, the 22nd. Granted they were sent 1st class mail, but geez.
I had already reported them as no–shows to eHit.

If his newest restaurant is opening in less than a month, you must cut
him some slack.

My copy of Turbo Tax was supposedly shipped on December 2 and I never
got it. Customer Service at that company is great, however. I emailed
them yesterday and three minutes later, I got an email apologizing for
the inconvenience with a new order number that will be sent express
mail. I don't even need it that soon (I won't even get my W2 forms or my
dividend forms until late January, I'm sure) but I was concerned because
20 days is rather long, even during the holiday season.
We also returned a Netflix DVD that would only be going from one point
in MD to another in MD around 20 miles away. I reported it as missing
three weeks after I realized that Netflix never got it back and they
marked it as missing. Netflix eventually received it over a MONTH after
we sent it back! They usually get DVDs within 24 hours of when we mail
them back.

If any of those items were sent media mail (I think that's what Netflix
uses), it only goes on mail trucks on a space available basis. During
the holiday season that generally means it's not going anywhere.

I ordered a large batch of cookies from Gourmet Center (Biscoff) for DH's
managers and my in–laws on the afternoon of the 18th. I signed on for next
afternoon delivery at ~$59 acknowledging that we would bite the bullet for
our late order. The delivery charge equalled 1/3 of the total charge.
The package was shipped on the 20th and is still out for delivery!! When we
called DHL (yuck anyway), we were told they were swamped; delivering until
dark and doing their best. I understand they're busy but it seems there
should be a way to coordinate exactly how many "next afternoon" packages you
actually have time to deliver!

You should definitely call the company and insist they refund your
"overnight" shipping charge. They should do this with no problem as
they can get a refund from DHL for failure to deliver as promised.

You know it! Actually, since the packages are no longer needed, we plan on
refusing the delivery (per Gourmet Center on our insistance) so the whole
package may be returned and all of our money refunded. I would have liked
to keep the item for the in–laws but it seemed it was going to be a huge
hassle to figure out all of the refunds and charges so....... I will
consider re–ordering for them after the holidays die down.
