After Christmas Sales!!

<valmont32...@aol.com>
Anyone thinking about what they are looking for or getting at the "after
Christmas sales"? (unless, ofcourse Santa gets it for you, for Christmas on
the off–chance?).
I am going to Cato's while I am in Kentucky hoping to score some really cool
ankle length skirts at a decent price in a size smaller than I usually wear
(I've lost weight...yaaaay!!). I also plan to get a pair of shoes when I
get back to Minnesota at Schuler's Shoes coz they sent me a 20% off coupon
(I am a "preferred customer" whatever that means! lol). So, now I can order
the black velcro strap New Balance shoes that I want!! 20% off of $84 isn't
too shabby and the coupon lasts till January 9th, 2006. I guess I am
sentenced to a life of geeky shoes, now that I have Plantar Fasciitis, so I
may as well get used to it. And with that coupon, I can buy the shoes
myself, instead of begging my parents to buy them for me, which makes me
feel a little better. I don't plan to hit any other after–Xmas sales in KY
other than Cato's. Where do you plan to hit on Dec 26th or thereabouts??

Ulta, which already sent me their after–Christmas flyer. They put tons
of stuff on sale with deep discounts after the holidays.
Same with Victoria's Secret, which just sent out their half/year flyer.

I think probably Ulta, even though I am not keen on the CS and I have a
GC from my boss for Marshall Fields, so I will wait for sales to go there...

Do you like Marshall Fields, in general? What do you think about the Macy's
takeover? I really enjoy shopping at Marshall Fields; there is something
very Midwest about it to me...and losing it to Macy's makes it more
"corporate"...I really can't explain it in words. But I get a lot of my
clothes from Marshall Fields b/c they have a lot of great sale racks for
plus sized women. A lot of good finds can be had in those sale racks if you
comb them right and also one of my favorite brands of clothing is Field
Gear. I really like Field Gear stuff b/c it is reasonably priced, is of
good quality, and is conservative/modest for the most part. I am finding
that I am really liking the fit of Field Gear stuff and I am buying more of
it than of the Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger plus sized offerings there.

Going to the mall on the 26th is almost as bad as going to the hospital.
Both lack parking. Our mall is adding lots of lovely stores in addition
to the Cheesecake Factory and other restaurants. Employees are parking
at Fresno State and being shuttled to the stores. It is an absolute
zoo. Since I need absolutely nothing I will look on line for good buys.
Ashford.com has often had very good end of year sales. One of my girls
bought a black skirt on sale at jcrew.com yesterday.
Also I lack the energy I had when I was younger. I cannot push my way
past people to battle the crowds and get the best goods. I'll leave
that to the rest of you and just envy your good buys.

You lose all the regional uniqueness... kind of like getting rid of
Foley's or The Jones Store. (Two more brands that will hit the dust
thanks to Federated gavaging us all with Macy's.)

I'm actually thinking of going back to Penney's tomorrow to shop for
something for me. I really need a warm cardigan to keep at the office
and the sales in there today were insane. I bought lots of clothing
for one of my sons at drastically reduced rates––I think everything
was 50% off and all the items were nice. So I'm thinking that maybe
I'll buy a couple things to put under the tree for myself!

The whole world isn't going that way. Apparently Google finally got their
claws into AOL and left Microsoft out of the picture. Can you just imagine
the consequences if they succeed. AOL will become the good guys for a
change...

In Canada, our biggest sales of the year are after Boxing Day – the
26th. I'm looking forward to Nine West being marked down as I want
boots, and Banana Republic is usually good for some real markdowns.

I tend to think of MF as being expensive and don't shop there because of
that reason.... it sounds like I need to check out the sales rack. The
closest one to me is Maplewood and for some reason I dont like that
mall, so that doesn't help either LOL. I don't really care about the
takeover, I think people who are from MN really, really are passionate
about it though. I work with people who still call it Dayton's :–) and
will not shop there once it changes to Macy's.

I've already ordered a couple of things.
I thought I had enough blazers, but find I could use a couple more. I
ordered two (one tweed, one velvet) online –– the first marked down
from $99 to $42 (using coupon), and the second from $150 to $40. I
also purchased a silk skirt for spring ($169 to $43), and threw in a
pair of socks to get free shipping. All told, about $120 for $420
worth of clothes.
I'll also be looking for a new parka for One for next year. He's been
wearing his current one for 3 years, and the *back up* for 4 years.
Both still in good condition, but I doubt he'll be able to squeeze into
them next year. My motto for kids' coats –– buy big, and buy on sale.
We also have two Bar Mitzvahs and a wedding in a single weekend next
spring, so I could definitely use another dress to get through them.

There's nothing sexy about these clothes (IMO), but then again it
depends on the line of work, I guess:^)
