I left more than my heart in San Francisco...shopping and more

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
DH, the girls and I went to the City for holiday fun on Saturday and
returned home today. It was raining all day Saturday and the area
around 5th and Market was so crowded but that didn't dampen our holiday
spirit. We marched like troopers to Nordstrom with DH leading the way.
That's where his part ends. He has a book, finds a place to sit and
does useful things like get us a table for lunch, hold packages, give
opinions on purchases etc.
Nordstrom...the girls desperately needed jeans. I bought one a pair of
basic Sevens and the other two pairs of Citizens of Humanity. I bought
lingerie, a lovely Michael Kors handbag for the younger one (bday gift)
and a Chanel cahut shadow for her sister. We had lunch at the Nordstrom
cafe and then braved the stores on Market and Powell. DH and the girls
went to Anthropologie while I went to Sephora.
Sephora...salespeople listen up, if someone needs help don't chit chat
about what you bought about DSW I bought a Bliss hand cream for my
purse (just like you carolcorb) and several items for Christmas gifts.
Merchandise is not always where it should be at this store. Palettes
not in stock by the brand are hidden at the side of another display.
From Sephora we marched toward NM.
Neiman Marcus...the girls bought Chanel giggle gloss. Denise there was
a great help. Randy helped me with a new Kiehl's cream de corps pump
lotion and Chanel Barcelona red nailpolish. It has more of a gold
sparkle than the Shanghai red I have been wearing. DH played Santa and
bought me a pair of David Yurman earrings.
We took BART to the hotel and then went to dinner at Moose's.
Afterwards we went to Beach Blanket Babylon, a great way to celebrate
the holidays in the city by the bay.
On Sunday morning it was still raining but I had plotted our course for
the day. We began at the BR flagship store which had very few
customers. Do NOT tell me that their on line holiday sale began today.
I do not want to hear it and my ears are covered. I bought the black
stretch dress with the cowl neckline, slight cap sleeve and velvet tie
belt. The girls bought black Martin slacks and in the sale section they
each found sweaters. One chose a gray wool sweater with a ballet
neckline and the other chose one in gold lurex. I also found a pair of
coral and gold earrings.
After BR we walked to Gumps. Gumps was still closed but across the
street there was H&M. It had just a few customers and the racks were
filled. I bought a very pretty red rayon and nylon turtleneck. One of
the girls found a black party top and the other bought herself a black
coat as well as a tweed skirt that was black, chocolate and light blue.
Gumps is such a beautiful store. The jewelry is amazing. I could spend
hours and hours just looking at everything. I bought myself a Fresh
violet moss soap, Fresh rice grains, Santa Maria Novella musk bubble
bath and a cute tree ornament for my son. DH bought me some suprises:)
We had lunch in Chinatown at the R&G Lounge. The salt and pepper crab
is TDF. We then went to our favorite snack and tea stores and walked
back to the hotel. The rain had ended. The older girl purchased a
smart pair of black pumps at Easy Spirit; they will be work shoes. I
bought a new purse calendar and small notebooks at Cranes
After a short rest we went to the Ferry Building spending most of our
time at Sur le Table. We bought a Silicon bundt cake pan, small
decanters, and various kitchen tools
Dinner was at Trattoria Contadina.
This morning after breakfast we returned to the Ferry Building for meat,
sausage, rare items from Boulettes Larder and Scharffenberger
chocolates.
The car was full and we are all happy.

I loved reading this Audrey! SF is such a great city. Sounds like you
hit all the hot spots. Hope you and the girls enjoy all your new
treasures!

I enjoyed reading your SF shopping report. The salt and pepper crab
at the R&G Lounge is indeed awesome. I know you're not listening
about the Banana Republic sale, BUT I'm not sure whether you know that
you can easily get price adjustments within 14 days. If you don't
live near a BR store, you might even be able to do it over the phone
because they keep all the transaction records in a computer database
and are able to look things up by date and transaction number. It's
all automatic now and all they do is scan the receipt, press something
on the screen, and the difference gets credited back to your card.
It's one of the things that keeps me going back and back to the store
regularly even when I'm not planning to buy anything.

Oh I am so envious – SF is one of most favorite parts of the world.
What a great shopping haul as well!

Thank you. I will get out my receipts and call today. There is no BR
store where I live. We'll finally get one in the spring. A year ago I
was able to save half off a pair of Taryn Rose shoes at Nordstrom by
calling the store when the sale began. I am glad I uncovered my eyes to
read your post.

Thanks for the detailed report – I lived vicariously through every
moment! Your husband is more patient than mine – the only time I get
to do serious shopping in SF is if we go with my MIL.

Wow! What an amazing holiday trip! My kids love H&M. I'm not a huge
fan of Sephora myself. A lot of what they sell can be had
elsewhere....cheaper!

Audrey, reading all about your weekend was the next best thing to
actually getting back there myself – something I haven't done since

What I like about Sephora is that the customer can grab a product from
one line and take it to another to compare. You can use the testers for
brands that are similar to find the products you truly want. You can go
to Macys, NM, Saks and Nordstrom but so many lines are exclusive to
specific stores. The limited editions of products drive me crazy
because once I've left a store, I often don't have time to return for
that exclusive or limited edition product.

True, although where I live my Sephora store is always so crowded, it's
hard to find a sales rep. I guess I'm spoiled by online shopping so my
favorites right now are
www.Ulta.com
www.beauty.com
www.drugstore.com
I also like QVC for buying anything Smashbox or Bare Escentuals
related. I like top quality, but I try really hard to find the best
prices too!

I forgot to mention a really great beauty page http://www.emakemeup.com
If you love make–up and want to schmooze with others who do, then this
is a great place to go. They not only review the latest, but have a
really great message board to share ideas about all kinds of products.
There's a lot of MAC lovers on this board so if you love MAC, you'll be
in good company.

It's great to see you helping the economy like that!
I'm envious of the whole thing––the locale, the family shopping fun, the
food. Thanks for sharing the adventure.
