OT: My Posts (Pardon Me Plz!)

<valmont32...@aol.com>
Just making sure my posts went through because I thought I had "canceled"
them out of frustration...coz I wrote the 3 I saw this morning like at least
a couple of days ago! But now they are here, although I wonder if anyone
can see them coz there are no replies...unless the _just_ got onto AF. I do
not subscribe to any other newsgroups and I don't know how to use
alt.dev.null or whatever to test, so please pardon my technical difficulties
here...if someone could email me at valmont32...@aol.com or just post here
to let me know my posts are showing up and coming through...it would be very
gracious of y'all. I have AOL, so they make it a little difficult with
using the cable modem's NNTP server...and I am not a usenet guru...esp with
Charter's tech support being really scary (you have to go through the whole
"unplug the modem, unplug everything possible, type in some commands like
/ip release or something...and if that doesn't do the trick then wait 15–20
mins for an actual human to come to the line..GRRR!). This has happened
once to be b4 with Charter, but it resolved itself on its own...I only use
Charter for 2 reasons, mainly coz AOL recommended them and the other reason
being the price coz it's about $30/month for the cable modem service 3Mbps
(you rent the modem, so if it gets fried, they give you one, it's their
responsibility!) coz AOL is sooo expensive to have both dialup (which I need
for Kentucky) and broadband (needed in Minnesota) for $42.95/month, but no
contracts for either service is nice. Okay if you actually READ this far
down my post, I am extremely flattered! So I will leave you with an ObFash
at the end and someone here can tell me if my posts are going through.
TIA!!! Sry for being so OT...

ObFash: Ever have a lipcolor that looks like it was "custom made" for you,
it looked so gorgeous? If so, what was it (line/color name?). I feel that
way about MAC's longwearing lipcolor in PAYOFF. It's the perfect brown that
replaced my beloved WnW #901, only it's better coz it's way better than
Lipfinity or Outlast!! Payoff is a mocha/bronze w/o much shimmer, more of a
satin finish depending how much of the top coat you want to put on. The
color instantly brings out the grey in my eyes, my freckles, my blush that
makes my cheekbones accentuated...it is just the PERFECT lipcolor for me!!
I am going to start hoarding it at $19.50 can't do that too well, but I will
own 2 tubes of it after Xmas so I can't complain....

Okay horrible form to reply to my own post, but I see myself that it went
through.....oh...there is a God out there and He must read AF from time to
time :–) Sorry to inconvenience everyone!!

ObFash: Do they still do that Back–To–MAC thing w/ the empty containers???
How many do you need to get whatever you get when you bring them in and
stuff? I need to be "in the know" now that I use almost exclusively
MAC......TIA!!

Yes, they are, showed up yesterday IIRC

Do you have your computer directly hooked up to the cable modem? I
hate to bring this up, but it's not a good thing to do. (and of
course, Charter doesn't tell it's customers that so unless you are a
geek you wouldn't know.) You're better off putting a router between
the cable modem and your computer. It helps protect your computer
from bad guys with what we geeks call NAT in addition to letting you
share the connection between multiple computers/devices. Very handy

Okay, thanks for the tip!! I had never considered really what the
consequences of hooking up the cable modem directly to the Ethernet card
could do...if we are on the same page here, I guess I am doing something
wrong. I don't have a router because Charter does not supply the router, it
just rents you the cable modem. I'm not sure how to install or what to even
do with a router. I guess I could ask someone at Best Buy (that's our
closest to a "computer parts store" here in the town I'm staying in, in
Minnesota). I don't like "bad guys," I don't think anyone with cable modem
does...
I'm still reading. :–)
You're very sweet, I really did not think anyone would bother reading my
post, much less to the bottom. :–)

I'm not sure what Viva Glam IV looked like...but I just remembered that Viva
Glam 5 looks like that one me!! It is about the only "real" traditional
lipstick I will wear ever. I don't usually pay much attention to the
Viva's, since a couple of them were quite "bright" and one of them was a
pallid pink, but I really, really adore Viva Glam 5. I mean, I only own
about 3 or 4 lipcolors anyways...MAC Lust Lipglass, MAC Longwearing Lipcolor
in Payoff, MAC Viva Glam 5, and then a lipcolor that my AF SS got for me...
Thanks for reading my post and advering potential hackers!! :–)

No, not wrong, just not usually a good idea. It's not the end of the
world though. :–)

Sometimes ISP's offer a router as part of the package which is nice of
them.

Best Buy often has Geek Squad franchises in them, and they could set
up one for you....for a price. You could try to get a geeky friend or
relative to do it. Or contact some independent "hire a geek" place.
It's not that hard to do it yourself, if the documentation is good. It
is usually but it's almost always in PDF form rather than a proper
paper manual. The Quick Start guides are sometimes enough though.
