Saks Rant!

"Emily" <egs...@aol.com>
I ordered from Saks.com last week and was delighted by the prompt
shipping, but was shocked to see my package arrive at my workplace
OPEN.
Normally, I would blame the delivery or postal service, because I
realize sometimes a company may have no control over what happens to
the package once it leaves their warehouse. Damage happens. However,
the problem clearly began at the warehouse/shipping department. The
package was so flimsily and insecurely wrapped. I was shocked to see
that there was only ONE piece of tape along the center box flap that
wasn't even long enough to seal the box (not even covering the seam,
and no additional tape on the sides or evidence that there had ever
been tape), and big surprise, it had come unstuck. So when it arrived
at my office, the box was actually open!
Since the package was clearly not well sealed, and an inadequate amount
of tape was used, it seems that the problem was at the point of origin,
not in the delivery. I've sent an e–mail to Saks to call attention to
this, but I'm still kind of stunned by this.
Fortunately, all items arrived intact and everything was in the box:
Pucci Rain Boots:
http://tinyurl.com/cdn67
Moschino Snow Hat and Gloves:
http://tinyurl.com/dh5qx
I'm just relieved I got everything (and woohoo! on sale!) but what the
hell? I'd expect better of Saks.

Love the boots!
I have had nothing but success in havin gthings shipped from Saks, both
online and from the stores (off 5th and regular).
However, I am sure my day will come...

Several years ago, I ordered some cosmetics from Saks. The box was opened
as well and the samples had fallen out. I had assumed someone opened the
box in the mailroom.

Here's something to think about. How many temporary employees do you
think they hire just during the holidays? Could it have been the
person's first day on the job? Could he or she already be fired by now?
Was he or she in such a hurry to go on break that an inadequate amount
of tape was used for sealing? I know I ranted as well when my Banana
Republic order was missing an item, the one I really wanted. All in all
I think these companies do a very decent job. My one and only leather
jacket came from Saks and it was shipped on the hanger in a plastic bag
in a gigantic box so that it wasn't wrinked or squished. I ordered it
though in a month other than December. I am amazed by the amount of
packing materials companies are now using to make sure orders arrive in
excellent condition. I hope your Saks order was simply a fluke.

Good point...holiday help perhaps. I've never had a problem with
ordering from them before and was shocked to think that someone
wouldn't even use enough tape to cover the one box flap they bothered
sealing. Completely half assed and unexpected.
They offered me a discount on my next order as a way to make up for
it...we'll see.
