What I Bought Today!!

<valmont32...@aol.com>
I saw my chronic–pain–management PhD counselor this morning at 8AM and lucky
for me most of the stores are opening around 9AM these days, so I went
shopping at the mall....I usually hate the mall, but it wasn't too busy
today and it also happens to be where the most fabulous shoe store in our
town is located at, plus one of our 2 Targets.
At Target:
*misc. Choxie stuff on sale
*a bunch of Glade candles (the smell really good for the price!) and Glade
oil–candle refills
*bulletin board & thumb tacks (so I can keep track of DR appts better by
putting the cards up on the bb instead of the fridge. The bb will be hung
up underneath my dry–erase calendar in my room to help keep appt's
straight!)
*Suave Berry Smoothie shower gel
*Glade "Clean Linens" air freshner spray and carpet sprinkle
Then for my big splurge...I went over to that shoe store I was talking about
and they opened at 9:30AM, so I had gotten there at 9:29AM about (lol) and
they lady was wanting me to wait (gee, great customer service!), but the
manager said for her to let me in coz I had bought a pair of New Balance
shoes and some insoles there yesterday, so she kinda got chastized about
being "nice" to me lol. I needed some slippers for my Plantar Fasciitis, so
I ended up with some cork ones made by Haflinger (German company) that were
originally $96 but they were 15% on sale (my luck, today was the beginning
of their slipper sale!!), so I got them for $82. I don't know if I would
exactly call this a "bargain" but I was in need. I hate walking around
barefoot or in anything w/o support. The slippers I got are an ugly
grey–brown wool color that grows you on after awhile and they have a "heel"
to them which is nice unlike the other "clog" type models. They are
extremely comfortable however! I am loving them. They are a bit loose in
the heel, but that's okay the lady said. I had to go up to an 8 (I am a
7.5D) coz they don't come in half sizes, but that's okay. I am not super
keen on a few of the employees at this store, they have a couple of bad
apples, one day u go in there and they are nice as pie, then another day
they don't want to help you much...but they are the only store in town that
stocks stuff like the high–end brands, hard–to–find–stuff, and shoes for
feet–that–are–hard–to–fit. But ultimately I am happy with my purchase at
this shoe store coz I love the slippers!! And when I vacuum my room later,
light a few candles, and spray the deoderizer, it will smell great in my
room :–)

I made two impulse purchases at Boots today that I'm really happy
with... one is their No. 7 Tinted moisturizer in Light and the other
is a Limited Edition Illuminations radiance lotion that you can wear
mixed with foundation or alone. I have become seriously obsessed with
giving my skin a boost and I really like this stuff... it's a
pinky–gold irridesence in the bottle and it gives my skin a nice bump
up! It's not as sparkly as the Gemma Kidd makeup school dewey primer
but it's wonderful in a different way. Both of these products leave my
skin matte but not parched so there's very little touching up during
the day. It's such a relief to look at myself in the mirror and not
see someone desperately ill these days... roll on Christmas!

Your attitude rocks! Maurey, you are handling your illness so well at
least in these alt.fashion posts, and I am sure you are an inspiration
to many readers, posters or lurkers who read your posts. Instead of
wallowing in self pity and deciding that life will never be the same, I
admire you so much for doing things and looking for things to make
yourself look and feel better.
Here's to a healthy you in 2006

Thank you Audrey... I'm enjoying being a "girl" again as most of the
time through chemo i didn't feel well enough to put makeup on or even
think about it much. And I met with my breast surgeon today who told
me that the tumour has shrunk so much that a lumpectomy is possible...
so I won't have to throw out my expensive Rigby and Peller bras after
all (fingers crossed)...

That's wonderful, Maurey. My mother had a lumpectomy, and cosmetically
you can't tell she had it at all. Good news.
