Jewelry organizer rave

"shinypenny" <shinypenny0...@yahoo.com>
I finally broke down and purchased a Lori Greiner Deluxe jewelry case
like this one:
http://tinyurl.com/cdyxj
Except I didn't purchase on ebay because the offerings there were all
scratch–and–dent.
I was dubious about the quality and worried it would be cheaply made,
but I have been so wanting something to keep my jewelry better
organized. My current jewelry box has long been a mess – too small and
everything crammed in there. Couldn't find earring matches without
digging, and necklaces getting all tangled. So I've been on the hunt
for the "perfect" system for a long time. I've contemplated just about
every conceivable jewerly organizer out there, I think, as I've surfed
far and wide. I'd seen this when it came up on QVC months ago, but
missed out because I didn't act fast enough. When I noticed it back on
the site again, I went for it.
It arrived the other day. The quality is okay – not the greatest, not
as nice as my existing jewelry box. It's obviously some sort of cheap
wood, the stain is more red than cherry, and it is kind of fragile and
needs care opening it and moving it. But I can live with that because
WOW – the way it's designed to keep everything organized and easy to
find is simply...........totally awesome and ingenious!
It fits everything with lots of room to spare and grow. I am mostly an
earring person to begin with – plenty of room for earrings. I spent an
hour organizing them by gold vs silver, and by stud versus hoop versus
dangly vs dress–up vs work vs casual. I don't have that many rings, so
I used half the ring area to store my brooch collection. I thought I
didn't have that many necklaces but now that I have this organizer, I
realized I do indeed have quite a few... just never could find any in
my existing box, so they got forgotten.

When I firt clicked on the link I was thinking "where have I seen a
jewelry chest similar to this" and when you said QVC, my first thought
was "ah–ha!" It looks like it would do a fantastic job of keeping
things organized. Shame though it's not that well constructed. I
don't understand why these manufacturers can't put just a tad more
money in their materials. No matter, you are happy with it and that's
what counts.
I've got something similar to this but m–u–c–h smaller made by Wolf for
travel with the swing out trays, very handy!

If anyone here is looking for a jewelry organizer, this is definitely
the time of the year to buy one. You will find more choices than in any
other month.

I bought these clear plastic hanging jewelery organizers from Lillian
Vernon a few months ago:
http://www.lillianvernon.com/catalog/product_display.jsp?pdId=2115&addOn=585&sid=eas
I got two, one for gold and one for silver. There are small pouches
for earrings and larger ones for bracelets/necklaces. I find them
terrific: you hang them in the closet and just pull them out by a
corner to see what you've got. I kept my 7–drawer jewelery chest for
things like beads and pearls and a few larger pieces, but the bulk of
my (large!) jewelery collection is in the hanging pouches. I've only
had them a short time, but they seem quite durable, it's a pretty heavy
duty plastic. It saves me a lot of time digging for things.

I bought one of those free–standing jewelry armoires – they do sell
some of them on QVC, but I bought mine in Home Goods. It's currently
sitting in the hall outside of the bedroom...once I figure out where to
put it, I'm planning to put ALL of my jewelry in there – instead of
having it all over in smaller boxes, bags and drawers!

Mine has been a godsend, I've had it for about 8 years and it holds the
jewelry plus scarves, hair doodads and other odds and ends like ticket
stubs from my travels. I had waaay too many smaller boxes for these
things before.
But I keep my everyday jewelry in a smaller "satellite" jewelry box an
AF friend gave me. It's a Fossil black leather with a compartmentalized
top tray that lifts out to reveal compartments in the bottom. This way
I can grab my most worn favorites and go. The less frequently worn
jewelry is in the armoire. I also have an earring organizer I keep on
the dresser next to the jewelry box so my earrings are close by. Since
having my ears pierced 3 years ago (yeah, I was a chickens*** about it
forever) I've switched from wearing mostly necklaces to earrings so I
want all of my earrings accessible. This works because I don't have to
hunt for everyday jewelry in the armoire but I don't have *too* many
boxes to look through.

I bought one of the jewelry armoires about 20 years ago. I chose it because
it had a key. Not that it provides real security (it doesn't) but because I
wanted a place where I could lock up my makeup away from my then–young
budding fashionista. (She had a habit of sampling my cosmetics while I was
in the shower.)
