Update on fur coat issue

"Mme. India" <mmein...@comcast.net>
Thanks for all the responses re the fur coat issue (and thanks for the
welcomes back–– wave to Jean! I have had a crazy year and things are just
getting back to normal).
I have decided to go the practical route. We have have a really extreme
cold spell this week and I've been wearing the fur around town to places
where I won't take it off, or know it will be safe (my office, etc). It
keeps me warm better than anything else I've ever owned.
I did not wear it into the city last weekend. My SMIL wore hers and checked
it at the restaurant we ate at. She knows the owners there so she felt
comfortable. She lives in the city and agreed with me that PETA would be a
danger in the Village. In NJ I really don't have to worry about them, just
about it being stolen or having something spilled on it.

Glad you have come to some compromise that allows you to enjoy coat. That's
really what it's all about.
Wear it in good health––and stay warm!

Slightly OT but still related – I travelled this weekend far, far away to
attend a regular Christmas party. Stayed with my in–laws. During the drive
there I realized that DH had forgotten to gather my impressive, but fake,
fur while the weather was going to be in the low 30's. I share the
sentiment with many regarding purchasing new vs. wearing vintage or
previously purchased so I was able to wholeheartedly agree when my MIL
suggested that I wear her mink to the party. It's sacrilege to say but it
is a beauty! I enjoyed the luxury of it and it was one of the warmest coats
I've ever worn.
India, I thought of you all the while wondering how your experience played
out. I'm glad to see it's gone well.

P.S. The "impressive" comment was tongue–in–cheek but I've often wondered
about fake furs being mistaken for real in the PETA crusade. I've had many
people ask me if mine is real so I just wonder.

I thought it was standard operating procedure.

Interestingly, while PETA is fairly brave about throwing paint on
fashionistas in leather stilletos or old women in furs, they never seem
to attack bikers in head to toe leather or NFL/NBA stars in fur coats.
Wonder why that is?

same reason Bush attacked a country with no WMDs?

Yes, but their leader was a genuine PITA (lexically similar to, but
not to be confused with, PETA).
