Best drugstore mascara?

"cofarb" <do...@cofarb.com>
I need a rec for drugstore mascara meeting these requirements:
Black
NO fibres or lengthening additives (this just *has* to flake and/or clump,
right?)
Not Mabelline (I have an allergic reaction to the standby pink & green tube
stuff)
tia,

Have you tried wet and wild megawink? Cheap, good, no fibers!

I would say Maybelline's Full and Soft is the best drugstore mascara
for me.

I like Maybelline volum express and lash by lash. Cofarb, are you
allergic to all Maybelline? Max Factor's stretch and shape is good too.

I tried a couple Maybelline mascaras in the past. I know I had a wicked
allergic reaction to the classic pink & green tube mascara, as well as one
other but I don't remember exactly which one it was. How does the Max
Factor "stretch" lashes without having fibers added to it?
I love my Kiss Me for summer because I can sweat and swim without getting
raccoon eyes, but it doesn't give me soft, lush–looking lashes like a good
regular mascara does.
Oh, the trials and tribulations <g>...

I like pretty much all of the Loreal mascaras. I'm currently using
Lash Architect. It DOES flake if I fall asleep with it (occupational
hazard of having to put the young'un to sleep every night –– sometimes
I fall asleep with him), but is otherwise fine.
I should note that sometimes, my mascara does clump in the first week
of use, when the tube is very full and wet. It usually stops in a
week.

You can avoid that by partially taking off some of the mascara from the
brush with a tissue paper.

I second the recommendation for megawink. It's excellent and very
pretty on the lashes.

It may have fibers but it looks fairly natural. I should try the
unopened tube I have in the cupboard and give you a report. I know I
liked the first tube I used and I don't like a lot of extra gunk on my
eyes.

There's a Neutrogena lash tint that doesn't seem to have any
lengthening/thickening qualities. It is a bit like the Philosophy lash
darkener, which I like very much, but which I also seem to use up too
quickly.

Thanks for the rec on the lash tint. I saw this and considered it. (I'll
probably try it when it's on sale.) It claims to be conditioning, which is
appealing. But I don't understand how it can claim to not cause raccoon
eyes if it has color in it.
I bought two drugstore mascaras: the highly recommended Mega Wink as well as
a Maybelline––not the pink tube––which has a really fluffy (and fluffening)
brush. I have tried the Maybelline and I think it may be flaking a bit, and
irritating my eyes. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a mascara.

Fortunately, Neutrogena does seem to go on sale pretty regularly! :) I
haven't experienced flaking with the lash tint, but if you rub your
eyes accidentally as I sometimes do, it does smear a little–– not a
lot, though, because it is hard to really build up the product, if that
makes any sense.
I do wish other companies besides Neutrogena/Philosophy made mascaras
like these. I like the look of tinted lashes much better than full
mascara when I'm not wearing other eye makeup.

Have you tried the Almay One Coat Nourishing mascara? I have the
lengthening formula, but they also have a thickening formula. It's
been my mascara of choice for awhile––goes on nicely and I've not had
any trouble with flaking or racoon eyes.
My hair stylist talked me into trying Maybelline Volum Express––ugh.
Very thick and clumpy, and it came off in big chunky flakes during the
day. I went back to the Almay.
