What are you using to combat dry skin this winter?

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
I use Kiehl's cream de corps mixed with one of four body lotions I keep
on the bathroom counter, the LM clementine or butter on my legs and
arms. I still like Pre de Provence hand cream with shea butter or
L'Occitane Immortelle hand cream, and Kiehl's lip balm #1 on my lips.
For my feet I wear socks 80% of the time and, otherwise, use B&BW's foot
cream, vaseline, or anything else I find in the cupboard.

Aveeno body wash with oatmeal in the shower and then using Curel or
Nivea body lotion. Also, alternate with a B and B Works cucumber blend
lotion. Aveeno hand cream (one with the purple top), love this
brand.

I'm using Jergen's original moisturizing lotion (cherry–almond scent).
I'd forgotten how well it works – it even clears up any little
patches of eczema I get.
I also LOVE Body Shop Coconut Body Butter and just bought a new
container of it the other day.

I am on the lookout for something unscented and will take care of my
face, which is flaking beyond belief :(

Have you tried Weleda Skin Food? It's unscented (I think) but definitely
not fragrance free. FWIW, my flaking was greatly reduced by daily use of
Skin Food. I also depend on Biotherm's Aquasource balm for very dry skin
(props to PB).

What's the difference between unscented and fragrance free? I would have
thought they meant the same thing.

For body & hands, large bottle with dispenser of Kiss My Face in
Peaches & Cream from Trader Joe's is sitting by my bedside. This stuff
smells wonderful and is rich without being greasy and pore–clogging.
For face, my usual Oil of Olay – the only thing my sensitive face tends
to like (besides Clinique stuff, but I tend to be lazier about getting
to the department store than to the drugstore). Apply the daily OoO
w/SPF in the morning; use the beta hydroxy version at nighttime to
control winter flakies.

TLAT Mrs. userb3's aesthetician recommended Eucerin, and we've both been
using it. gresat stuff that manages to last most of the day without being
greasy. No itchy legs from sitting at a desk with a heater vent below it!

I hate to admit that I don't use anything fancy like Kiehl's or anything.
But I alternate between a few lotions. I like White Rain's Cocoa Butter
lotion (a steal at one buck a bottle!!), Burt's Bees Milk & Honey Lotion,
Burt's Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk lotion, Suave Cocoa Butter lotion, and
Equate Cherry–Almond lotion (Walmart's knock off of Jergens). For my hands,
I totally rely on the Burts Bees Shea hand cream!! This handcream is the
best I have ever tried. Seeing that I am listing off all of these lotions
must make me kind of a lotion–ho (lol). I just like variety!!

No. Fragrance free is more strict and is truly free of perfumes.
"Unscented" just means you won't necessarily perceive the perfumes and
fragrances may have been added, sometimes to cover up the smell of
something else in the lotion that may not smell so good.

For body, I'm using two different products (not at the same time):
Lulu Guinness Cast A Spell body cream
V–Tonic body cream from Fresh (more herbal and not as strong)
I'm not using any facial lotions yet. My skin is oily and I won't need
it until it gets much colder and the heat's on all the time.
Stacy
"jjjjjuliep" <jjjjju...@aol.com>
Curel Ultra Healing "with extra skin hydrators" (blue tube with red
stripes). Unscented, non–greasy, and one application takes my very dry
(to the point of bleeding) skin back to normal.
There's also a Suave with oatmeal lotion I've been using too (b/c the
Curel is too expensive for normal moisturizing).

I used to think that they were same, but then someone explained to me that
"unscented" means that there is no detectable fragrance (i.e. It's possible
that a chemical may have been added to neutralize an unpleasant odor that's
a natural byproduct of the process), while "fragrance free" means that no
fragrances were added (i.e. The mix of ingredients to create the product may
naturally have a scent, but no ingredient was added purely for scent
purposes). Note that I've also since seen explanations switching the 2
terms.

Since you're a L'Occitane fan, I will mention this... I used to buy
their line of Honey (Miel) products for my skincare, en Provence
specifically, that contains Royal Jelly from the bee hives cared for by
the nuns of France. The smell alone would send a diabetic into sugar
shock with the smell of honey and the skin smoothing properties of the
Royal Jelly was a gift from God above. Then I went to Bath & Body
Works recently and was stopped in my tracks when I recognized the same
exact smell wafting from their shelf of Formula No. 107 products.
Reading the label, I recognized too many similarities and questioned
the manager only to find out that it is the same product, licensed to
B&BW to be labeled differently for sale in the U.S. A true benefit is
that I was able to buy twice the product for the same price as the
European label. It goes on sticky because of the real honey in it, but
that wears off quickly. It is worth the small hassle while it absorbs
into your skin.
Purchase the Skin Softening Body Balm – Honey & Shea in the large jar
(8.8 oz.) for roughly $24, if I recall correctly. You won't regret it.
