Keds Sneakers

"Mij Adyaw" <mijad...@nospam.net>
The over 40 crown may remember that back in the 60s Keds Sneakers were very
popular. The used to come with decoder rings, whistles and other little
toys. I always looked forward to getting my next par of Keds. What ever
happened to Keds? Did they just loose their popularity?

With Zappos having 171 Keds SKUs, I'd ask "where are you looking?"
Did they just loose their popularity?

OK, you wouldn't want to wear them in gym class any more. You Just
Couldn't Do It wearing them.

I posted here not all that long ago about my first pair of REAL Keds. I did
everything in my power to try to break them in, including having a friend
who has the same size feet as me wear them around for an entire day, plus
the adhesive heel thingies from Dr Scholls to make them more comfortable. I
wanted to like them soooo much! But, alas, they are an extremely
uncomfortable shoe for me. I would never recommend them to anyone. I have
a pair of "imitation" Keds that I got at Target a long time ago and I put Dr
Scholls gel inserts in those, which improved them quite a bit!! So, my
brand new Keds sit in my closet, while I wear the Target ones instead. I
would have never bought the real Keds in the first place if I had known that
they were going to be so terribly uncomfortable and virtually impossible to
break in without getting huge blisters. I love the way they look, but I
totally hate wearing them. Ughh......

I agree w/ Kristin. I bought 2 pairs of Keds last summer, but they
weren't the traditional Keds. One was the "Bradshaw" which is a very
cute slip on sneaker, kinda like a mule. But they aren't very
comfortable and not really recommended to wear barefoot, bec they are
difficult to clean and end up rather smelly. However they look silly
if you wear them w/ socks. I have some of those funny toe socks I wear
with them. The other was a canvas thong sandals that looked really
comfy, but definitely not. They had some sort of rubber bit that
chafted and ended up making my toes bleed. They are also not very
durable. I thought Keds were supposed to be comfortable. I wouldn't
recommend either of them.

This doesn't necessarily address the sneaker situation but I find the newer
Keds to be uncomfortable. I bought some Keds striped summer mules and they
chafed terribly in a few places. I don't know what it is with Keds and
those heavy soles but they make the shoes unwearable. I also have a pair of
Keds sneakers that have huge, heavy rubber soles and stretch/leather uppers
that are wearable but noticeably heavy. I called Keds to register my
complaints and was met with polite indifference. I wouldn't recommend them
either.
