What I Bought Today

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
I followed my plan and went first to a local boutique where there was a
sidewalk sale and all in store items were 20% off. Those of you who
have shopped with me know I record all my purchases in a little
notebook. They had a tiny one called What I Bought for $2. I bought
the girls cute little notepads that are actually tiny postits for $1
each. In the store I bought 2 tubes of Archipelago soy creme milk
lotion for 20% off. At the drug store I got my diet 7 up as well as a
big poinsettia 50% off.
DH went to Office Max and bought a Brother printer/color
fax/copier/scanner/pc fax that will cost $24 after rebate. It can't be
worse than the copier/fax we paid far more for at Costco that always
jammed. No one was at Office Max because it isn't near other stores.
I would have liked to go to Old Navy but it is located near Best Buy,
Target, Comp USA and that parking lot would be really crowded.

Hey, yoiu're all brave to risk the crowded malls on that particular
day! Some environmental groups had designated it as "Buy Nothing Day,"
because we all have a lot more than what we need. I wasn't that
conscientious, however. I did visit a couple of thrift stores. Business
there was slow because everyone was out at the retail malls and
outlets. Take care, Melinda

I finally found my wedding shoes at a new bridal salon in town! I'm so
relieved because I have searched for the last several months for the perfect
pair. I needed something comfortable, yet sleek/sophisticated/elegant.
They are by the brand Grace in the style Stella. Here's a picture:

Great choice! Best of all, when the celebrations are over, you can always
dye them black and be able to use them for other events!

I was delighted to see that my local Talbots started their "after
Christmas" sale early. I picked up 2 cotton/modal mock turtleneck
sweaters in chocolate brown & dark willow green and 2 boiled wool
jackets in black & orange spice.

I finished up my Christmas shopping today and was pleased to see that
even staunch Liberty department store was having a "half price sale."
I was sorely tempted by a mini Stila palette called Sleeping princess,
so named in honor of the English National Ballet––various shades of
sheer and sparkling roses/pinks. But, I had other people to buy for so
that's what I did––
For brit husband:
Liberty tie in "strawberry field"––lovely shades of sky blue
Pucci tie in navy, taupe, aqua and sky blue characteristic swirls
L'artisan parfumier Mechant Loup 100 ml
Liberty cuff links with a 50s style nude on them (very discreet)
Marks and Sparks socks and underwear
For Father–in–law:
Thelonius Monk forgotten sessions–– 1957
For Mother–in–law:
J'adore gift set
Clarins day cream w/ self tanner (forgot the official name)
I would have loved to have gotten my husband some decent running shoes,
as he doesn't like the big "multi national brands, i.e. Nike so runs in
terrible cheap knock–offs instead. But I'm trying to be careful with
my spending, so he'll have to do with the terribly practical things
I've gotten him this year. I consider myself justified, as I bought
him an Ipod last year that he STILL hasn't figured out how to work!!!

I went back to Talbots *again* and bought another of the cotton/modal
mock turtlenecks in grey heather and a different style boiled wool
jacket in blueberry. Their boiled wool jackets are lightweight and much
more fitted & flattering than others I've tried. There's a fringed wool
cardigan in the catalog/online that I like, too, but my local store
didn't have it and I didn't want it bad enough to pay shipping for just
the one item.

This is more on the order of "what I scored on ebay today" (for a whole
$8.99 + 3.50 shipping): a Michael Simon ramie/cotton sweater:
http://i19.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/b4/d9/0e_1.JPG
I like having somewhat odd tastes: many times I'm the only bidder on
stuff like this that I really like but apparently no–one else does.

I returned the dark willow green mock turtleneck to Talbots today. I
decided the color is too yellow to be flattering on me. I also returned
a similar color green wool sweater to Marshall's. For some reason I
thought that color was a good idea last week. Fortunately I realized
that shade of green makes me look ill before I ripped off the tags.
I also returned a pair of pumps I bought at macys.com because they
reduced the price considerably on a one day sale 11 days after I'd
placed the order. It had taken a few days to receive the order so I
hadn't even worn the shoes yet! Macy's only gives adjustments for 10
days and refused to make an exception. No problem. I just reordered
them at the lower price, along with a couple more items from the one
day sale, and returned the more expensive pair.
Tonight I went shopping with BF & I bought:
Marshall's sweater clearance: 3 Irish wool cardigan sweaters – 2
shorter sweaters in grey tweed & black and a belted mid– thigh length
sweater in navy blue
TJ Maxx: bright blue Cosabella chemise, beige/black Cosabella bra, 2
pairs Rockport grey tweed socks
London Fog Outlet: long black trench coat with removeable hood & liner
BF bought 2 black coats at London Fog, 1 longer length suede coat and a
shorter microfiber jacket, and a pair of brown leather boat shoes at
the Timberland outlet.

Spending way too much in the sales. Today, I ordered six pairs of
shoes from Zappos –– that's as many as I usually buy in a year! I'm
hearing One in my head, talking to his friend A: *She says she NEEDS
black flats! NEEDS! Can you believe that? She already has shoes!*
Beige mules –– these are the only ones I wasn't sure about
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/product_id/7189595.html
Blue slides; I wanted a pair last summer, so I couldn't resist now
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/product_id/7198437.html
Black mules –– these, I love
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/product_id/7162018.html
Play shoes!

Gray sandals

Another pair of black slides
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/product_id/7192276.html
Total damage, about $165. Not so bad. Now let's hope they fit OK!

I wish I hadn't seen this post. Who would know that zappos had such a
sale since I just delete the e mails? I've already made my NM sale
purchases, small purchases from L'Occitane and Yankee Candle but shoes
are an entirely different subject. Now to browse...

A new Toshiba DVD player – my cheapo Coby started making very loud
mechanical noises, like gears straining and skipping and freezing. (Know
it wasn't the DVDs because they all play just fine on my old Toshiba
player downstairs). I love Costco – $45 for a non–fancy but nice
Toshiba.
A Rival crockpot and a bag of dried bean soup mix to initiate it with.

I hit the sale at Macy's (formerly the Bon Marche for those of you in
the Pacific Northwest). They were having huge sales, and I bought
three of these sweaters:
http://tinyurl.com/afnh2. They were practically giving them away, so
I bought one in each of red, blue, and ivory. They'll be great with
jeans or can probably even be paired with casual pants for work.
I also bought a cute long–sleeved tshirt that I can't find a picture
of. The tag/brand says "one world". It's putty colored, fitted,
v–neck and has some cute sequiny/beady embellisment around the
neckline in pinks and greens. I'll wear it with jeans to a casual NYE
party at a co–worker's home later tonight.
