Why American Women Feel Embarassing to Have Big Butt?

"Debbie" <debbie_ston...@hotmail.com>
When I traveled in South America and Europe, I found that women there
are very pround to display their big asset behind. They almost always
tuck their blouse or shirt in their skirts. But here in America, many
women seem to do everything to hide their behind. Actually I've found
it true to almost all English–speaking countries. Any idea why the
differences?

I may be speaking as an American here, think it would be weird to go
around showing off big assets everywhere.
Good way to be pickpocketed or robbed.
We prefer to be more discreet about our big assets. I remember many
years ago that they said millionaires were more likely to have a Sears
credit card (very unpretentious) instead of an American Express (don't
attempt to impress people without it <grin/duck>).
But here in America, many women seem to do everything to hide their
behind.
They don't want the one–handed posters slinking out from Road Runner
to notice and comment about their bee–hind.
Any idea why the differences?
The USA is neither Europe nor Latin America. We don't want to be
Europe or Latin America. There are really good reasons not to be
Europe or Latin America. I'll admit that people in Europe or Latin
America may not agree.
To flip it over to the male equivalents, you won't see a Speedo–type
swimsuit here unless it's on a competive swimmer participating in
competitive swimmng.
Even though, IMHO, they're much more fuel–efficient as swimwear.
Fuel efficiency never mattered in America, did it? That explains the
number of road yachts I saw dead along the side of the road during the
Rita evacuation, having consumed all their fuel. While, all the time,
the Toyota owners evacuated, drove back, and went to work for three
weeks on the same tank of gas.

Most interesting comment, Charlie! I remember when I was little, my
mother used to say that women with wide hips are blessed to have lots
of kids, and she's very proud of having a very womanly shape. I think
today the fashion industry put some standard on women so they only feel
attractive if they are as skinny as a ballerina. I think even how
people judge their own looks has been quite commercialized.

Because we have full length mirrors and we can see how awufl we look
carrying all that extra poundage around on our butts. Could this be a
possible explanation? Because walking behind a woman with an enormous
rear end looks like two dogs in a paper bag fighting? It's just not an
attractive sight to us and a woman doesn't have to be stick thin to be
lovely.

i have an american friend with a large and round posterior.
in usa there is some sort of racial anxiety about the large ass.
like, they are always asking if she is black.
i don't know some white people in usa are prudes and don't
like to see a protruding butt.

I don't think it has anything to do with race but perhaps a big butt is
perceived as the person who is carrying it around does nothing but sit
on their butt and eat all the time. Of course this is not true, but
some people do think this way as if the person who has a large
posterior is lazy. Funny how some people have strange perceptions but
a fat, jiggly, dimpled rear end is not the best look to have.

Twiggy?
lots of emphasis lately on wearing pants not skirts (traditional skirts
were tolerant to the curvy figure– traditional pants are easier to fit
on a straighter figure, though now with better tailoring and stretch
fabrics, most women can find some pants that fit)

south america and europe is south america and europe and they are not
america.
why do we have to copy or follow their customs and why should they
follow ours.
by showing or not showing one's posterior does not feed the hungry,
cure all the illness
and health problems, find shelter for the homeless or teach the
illiterates to read and write.
in the scheme of priorities, dont think if its proper to exhibit or not
exhibit one's posterior is very high on the list nor should it be.
instead of wondering about the differences its more prudent to make a
difference in other peoples lives that need it
