How loyal are you to your Foundation?

"Debbie" <debbie_ston...@hotmail.com>
I simply cannot resist buying new foundations after hearing or reading
good things about different foundations. This maybe because I'm not
100% satisfied with my current foundation, or maybe I'm just a makeup
junkie. Can anyone tell how many foundations you have or how often you
switch them?

A variation of Murphy's Law here: I'm about to tire of a foundation
immediately after I stock up on it!
I'm more careful about discarding them these days. I've finally figured out
that I need totally different foundation in summer than in winter––different
color *and* different formulation.
In summer, I don't even wear foundation, just tinted moisturizer. (BTW, a
guy asked me why my tinted moisturizer *isn't* makeup. For the life of me,
I couldn't come up with an answer. It is, after all, a makeup type
product. It's actually a lot less greasy than my winter foundation,
something by L'Oreal.)

I am probably the most loyal person here. When I find the right one, I
use every last drop, never look at other brands and restock it as
needed. I think women make a great mistake when they use heavy
foundation that masks their face and looks so obvious.I currently have
and use Armani liquid silk foundation #5. I have two bottles that are
almost totally used up and just ordered a spare. Before that I used
Bobbi Brown's oil free foundation. A while ago I had alt.fashion's
foundation queen check out my face and she agreed that I was using the
right one.
It is hot in the summer where I live so often I will use a tinted
moisturizer or no foundation.

When I first joined this group several years ago I bought every
foundation that I read about. I had at least 20! When I finally,
through trial and error, found what works best for me I stopped looking.
I decided powder foundations were my favorite since they were so easy
to apply. I used OoO until it was discontiued, then I used Studio Fix
for a couple years, but my skin has gotten to dry for that so I've
switched to Chanel Double Perfection. I'm happy with the Chanel so I'll
use it until it's discontinued or it stops working for my skin type.

I've probably tried nearly every foundation, I swear. And, like many
here, I used to loyally lemming the "new hot thing" as soon as a series
of favorable reviews appeared about it. But I don't do that any more;
I've found my two favorites are now CG's TruBlend powder foundation and
BE mineral foundation. Both work beautifully for me and I don't see
any reason to switch. At least...not for now...but who
knows?...things change...

I'm very loyal to my Youngblood mineral foundation as I have found the
perfect color and foundation for me. Occasionally I will read
someone's rave review for another makeup, but it doesn't make me want
to rush out and buy it. I know the messy, greasy results I've had with
liquids in the past, why switch when I've got a good thing going?

I think that's what keeps me on the search for The Perfect
Foundation––the hope of finding one that actually evens out my skin,
feels good, and has staying power *without* looking like a heavy mask!
Right now I'm using Dream Matte Mousse but I'd drop it like a hot
potato if I found something better.

I am fairly loyal. I have been using MAC SF for several years and have
restocked my supply many a time. Recently I have been more interested in
mineral foundations and decided to take the plunge and bought a Bare
Escentuals kit from Sephora. I am really enjoying the coverage and how it
looks on my skin. I know that I probably will keep these two in rotation.

Very loyal. Once I find something that works very well (right now VL Water
Canvas C to P) I stick with it until the urge strikes me again to check out
another product. The urge doesn't strike very often. I think the thing
that causes us to continue to try new products is the hope that they just
keep getting better and better. I'm not so sure. I think, most of the
time, it's just reformulating the same old thing with a slightly different
twist.

i used to be completely loyal and then I got sucked into trying
different brands and formulations. I'm totally guillible for anything
extremely lightweight, liquid that gives minimal coverage and "a glow."
Having a wardrobe of things to use have actually been good to me right
now, as I'm using the Bobbi Brown Extra tinted moisturizer with my skin
really dry and sensitive. Before it was much too heavy and greasy.
I'm combining this with the Chanel Blanc primer but I think the
whiteness isn't doing my chemo complexion any real favors. Before
departing to Planet Cancer I really loved the coverage and radiance of
Tarte's Smooth Operator and I imagine that I will begin experimenting
with it again soon once my skin stops acting so parched and
uncomfortable. I did purchase Clean Slate primer to mix with Smooth
Operator so it make it more moisturised for me. We'll see!

L'Oreal discontinued their AirWear foundation. I currently still own 8
bottles of it, 7 in the fridge. I bought 11 when I learned of its
impending doom. But I do switch around a bit...
*Paula's Select Natural Finish Oil–Absorbing Makeup SPF 15 (very, VERY
sheer.)
*Neutrogena's Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 in Light/Medium
(less sheer and a little too oily to wear in Summer)
*Clinique's Almost Makeup (I'm surprised this is still available.)
I have bottles/tubes of these I probably should dump...
*Almay Skin Stays Clean
*Nars Oil–Free
*MAC's Select Tint
*Lancome's Teint Idole
*Smashbox's Matte Foundation
*MUFE Mat Velvet
*Clarin's Matte I can't remember the whole name of
*DHC's Water–Based (which really IS water–based)

Well I'm relatively new to to foundation, only began using it in the
mid to late 90's. When I started reading AF, I was an open book and
trying to find my HG foundation. So I read recs and tried them
(drugstor brands)
Since AF:
Maybelline Shine Free, both old and new formulations,
Max Factor panstick, ugh. went back to Shine Free.
Maybelline Everfresh, like Shine Free but looks better (and with less
cil control)
Lancome Maquicontrole, worked okay, looked okay, but $$$
Maybelline Tru–Match, loved the way it looks, made my skin look great
but it does not control oil.
L'Oreal Cashmere perfect, looks like Tru–Match but controls oil and
has staying power! My current default.
Mac Studio Fix (NC20) Works well, but I think I actually like the
Cashmere Perfect better. But I think it's a good thing, I know my MAC
number.especially in AF.
I have a couple of foundations I want to test out but haven't got
around to it. Those being the Dream Matte Mousse and the new L'Oreal
Infallible.

Sorry to have to post under the psychotic gymnastics but I have been
doing some playing around now that I'm back to doing my makeup fairly
regularly...
Here's what I'm "re–discovering" lately:
Dr Hauschka translucent foundation and tinted day cream––
Both very nice, though the finish of the foundation is a bit more
polished. Both of these are especially nice mixed with a bit of the
Chanel Blanc primer, though I do have to be careful not to use too much
of this. Looking ghostly is NOT the idea for me right now. They go on
very smoothly and sink into the skin. There's no real coverage,
however so if you have things to cover up this wouldn't be a good bet.
Mac Hyperreal foundation––
Lovely color choice and the glow is quite subtle. Believe it or not,
it's a bit dry for me right now but the finish is quite good. Easy to
blend but because my skin is so dry it does end up looking a bit flat
on me
Natural Wonder adjusting foundation––
A natural company from New Zealand. Very yellow in the bottle but it
goes on super sheer and stays on well. It's fine but doesn't really
add any glow factor and is super expensive (for an obscure natural
brand). I love the makeup catelogue because they obviously don't
photoshop the models and they are all colors and ages. It's worth it
for the brochure alone! They all look vibrant, attractive and REAL.
Bobbi Brown Extra foundation––
This one doesn't look or feel dry but the color is also a tad off (a
bit greeny yellow on my skin) and there's no glow again. I like mixing
it with the chanel primer but I do have to be prudent with it, as
mentioned above. No real coverage on this one either.
More to come as I work through my back catalogue...
For the moment, I'm leaning towards Dr Hauschka as my favorite option
these days...
