Shower Gel Mixology

"Vicki in DC" <Nickycharles2...@yahoo.com>
So, okay, I had a couple of shower gels in my collection that were half
empty, not enough to swap but not quite right for the cool weather
ahead. BBW's Rice Flower and Shea has the sweetness but not much
intensity or spiciness, and L'Occitane Vanille Bourbon is just what JN
and a few other AFers said in the Molton Brown thread; too synthetic
smelling. And to think what a lemming item it once was..and that I have
a couple in my stash. But BBW's Tutti Dolce shower gels are my current
faves for cool weather, creamy and warm smelling w/o being too
overpowering, too spicy or too sugary. I poured some Tutti Dolce Angel
Food Cake into the Rice Flower and Shea and topped it off w/ Vanille
Bourbon. The end result is perfect; lots of scent layers of vanilla,
cookie dough, honey, bourbon and a nice creamy texture for cold
weather. Mmmmmmmm.....and the synthetic smell of the VB is gone.
Has anyone else mixed shower gels? What combos worked for you? I'd love
to hear more ideas for the cold weather, or anytime because this is a
good way to give new life to shower gels that are boring but not enough
left of any to swap. And free up shower space for new ones :–).

What a great idea! But I'd start out with shower gels from same company
but different scents, just to make sure there won't be any bad
reactions among the ingredients. And if the bottle is transparent and
the gels are in different color, why not make a shower gel cocktail?
I'll definitely try some formula and let you know.

I have to admit I'm surprised that concoction works, but I trust your
evaluation!
I bought some Terra Nova Rain shower gel at half off ($5 for a bottle). It
was very think and gooey, and had a screw off top. What kind of person likes
to deal with a screw off top on a shower gel?! I poured it into my mostly
used up bottle of China Rain shower gel from The Body Shop, which has a flip
top, and watered it down. It should last a long time. Not exactly mixology,
but a great bargain that I "stretched".

That's another good reason I'm going to keep doing this, the L'Occitane
caps are also screw top, and so small and fiddly that I don't want to
bother with them anymore.
Your blend sounds lovely. Terra Nova has a touch of white clover in
its Rain scent so you're getting floral notes along with watery notes.
As for my unlikely mix, I think it worked because the gels all had
"warm" foody elements to them; bourbon, cake, vanilla. Dumping a
citrus into the mix – though a food scent – would have resulted in
something rather putrid probably.
I'm going to have fun with this next spring/summer with citrus and
fresh blends :–). Googling the perfume layering threads on AF will be
a good guide.

Has anyone else mixed shower gels?
Yes. And shampoos. And conditioners.
