Samples galore

I finally opened the box from Aedes de Venustas and was suprised to find
seven fragrance samples in addition to the one I ordered. They are
Serge Lutens ambre sultan, un bois vanille, douce amere, and cedre as
well as L'Artisan Parfumeur premier figuier, tuberuse, and premier
figuier extreme. I had samples of the sheer kir lipstick and two
skincare samples in my Bobbi Brown order and I received several Kiehl
samples when I purchased new lip balms. Now I just have to remember to
try all of them.

Awhile ago, I asked a friend to get some Fragonard perfume for me when he
was in Paris. The store included a bunch of samples of other scents (I'm
addicted to their signature fragrance which is primarily "white flowers").
I loved some of the sample scents, too, but they were packaged like moist
towelettes. I loved trying the scent on my wrists but I didn't like having
my hands get soaked with the perfume. (The Soleil was wonderful, too.) And
the little papers dried out quickly; I couldn't hoard the samples after I'd
opened them.
Is it my imagination, or is there something truly special about French
perfume?
