Shoe Care Question

"Miss J" <kitten...@gmail.com>
I have a pair of red nubuck boots that I have worn for the past three
years. They are starting to look a bit worn. Is there anything I can
do make them look better? This is my first experience with nubuck.
Thanks for listening.

There are suede and nubuck cleaners available, made by Kiwi and other
brands. Follow the directions on the packaging and use a bristled
brush afterwards to restore the nap. Otherwise, you can take the
boots to a good shoe repair place and possibly get them redyed or
treated somehow.

Thank you Alice, I think I will take them to a good shoe repair. I
would get a new pair but I just love these boots. They are made by
Aerosoles and are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn!

I had 2 pair nubuck... similar situation. I donated them to Goodwill and
bought some new shoes. Ah, the frivolities of Western life...

Good luck, Missy! And next time, pre–treat your suede footwear (and purses
and everything else) with a protective spray. Make sure it is suitable for
use on suede finishes. I do 3–5 coats of the stuff before putting the item
into service.

AMEN!!! "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" to quote an
old saw. Every time I wear my nubucks or suede shoes they get a good
brushing when I take them off. Removes and dirt or grime I may have
picked up, keeps the material looking almost new, and of course they
are ready to wear again without wishing I had maintained them better
when I put them on.
